In the latest trailer released by Netflix, the foul-mouthed Detroit cop revisits California and reunites with former detective John Taggart (John Ashton).

The two reluctantly work together to save John’s ex-partner Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) from trouble.

Perfect Strangers actor Bronson Pinchot reprises his role as Axel’s friend Serge, and Paul Reiser (Mad About You) returns as Detective Jeffrey Friedman.

The footage is filled with homages to the original ’80s crime comedy, including Axel’s Detroit Lions jacket, German musician Harold Faltermey’s electronic theme, and an homage to Wonder World amusement park.

At one point in the trailer, The Pointer Sisters’ song Neutron Dance can be heard in the trailer.

In 1984, the hit track was featured on the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack, and the singing sensation made a music video for the film.

THE COMMENTS

Fans jumped Xformerly known as Twitter, as they recognized the single’s callback.

“Harold Faltermeyer’s Theme + The Pointer Sisters’ Neutron Dance (from the first soundtrack) = Perfection!” one fan cheered.

“I didn’t expect Neutron Dance to be the music return here (aside from Axel F, of course), but I appreciate it,” another fan added.

“The new Beverly Hills Cop trailer has me excited to revisit that world again. And the mix of Axel F and Neutron Dance was the icing on the cake! Solid trailer. If they can capture some of the magic of the first two films, I’ll I’ll be happy,” said a third fan.

‘CRAZY TRUCK CHASE SCENE’

In March 2020, singer Ruth Pointer, 78, spoke about the music’s legacy with Pop is important.

She discussed how the track came about with co-songwriter Allee Willis.

I think just the gospel spirit in that track made that song and worked for that crazy truck chase scene in the movie.

“Beverly Hills Cop was a landmark, as far as black films go, with Eddie Murphy,” Ruth shared.

“I think just the gospel spirit in that track made that song and worked for that crazy truck chase scene in the movie.”

“It was a big surprise for me too.”

“I didn’t even want to sing the song at first because I didn’t know what ‘neutron’ meant,” she continued.

“Allee. God rest her beautiful soul, was in the studio.

“She came to the studio that day and said, ‘Just sing the damn song, girl!

“’I wrote the song with your voice in mind. Just sing like you used to sing in church.’”

“When she gave me her blessing to sing how I wanted, I just went for it!” the hitmaker concluded.
