AMAZON has pulled the plug on a TV series based on a popular indie pop music duo.
The coming-of-age drama High School, based on the 2019 memoir by twin sisters Tegan and Sara Quin, aired on Freevee for one season.
But the show will not return for a second season.
The series starred twin sisters Railey and Seazynn Gilliand and showed Tegan and Sara’s childhood and musical development.
The book was released in 2019 and picked up as a TV show by Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B and aired on Amazon’s Freevee on October 14, 2022.
According to The Hollywood Reporterwho broke the story, sources revealed that Freevee wanted to renew the hit TV show and gave series creator Clea Duvall high hopes that it would be renewed.
She brought in a team of writers and completed a full script for the second season.
However, the “completion rate” left executives “little choice” but to cancel.
‘AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE’
Fans shared their honest thoughts on the cancellation news.
“Gem of a show,” said one of them.
When the show first aired, another said: “I LOVE High School. Can’t stop watching. What an absolute masterpiece.”
A third said: “I love the show so far, although I don’t know much about them, it’s embarrassing.”
“It draws you in and I can honestly relate because my twin sister and I are also homosexual.
“And so you have different perspectives watching it.”
