A TV series based on Minecraft is being developed by the streaming service and Mojang Studios, the game’s Swedish developer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Details about the upcoming series, announced on Thursday to celebrate the game’s 15th anniversary, are scarce.
However, the show will feature a new main character who will “show the Minecraft world in a new light.”
Wildbrain, who animated Sonic Prime, Ninjago: Dragons Rising and Carmen Sandiego, will also animate Minecraft.
A showrunner for the new series has also not been announced.
It will be based on the 2009 game of the same name by Markus Persson.
A feature film will also be released in April 2025, with Jack Black, Jason Momoa and Danielle Brooks leading the cast.
Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer wrote the script and Jared Hess is directing.
It’s unclear if any of the film’s crew will be involved with the series.
Minecraft is the latest video game to be adapted into a series with Fallout and Tomb Raider (Amazonas), areola (Paramount+), The Last of Us (HBO), Resident Evil and The Witcher (Netflix), also receiving this treatment.

Minecraft is a sandbox game, which means players can build their own cities and interact with each other.
THE FILM
While a release date for the series has yet to be announced, Minecraft fans will be able to see the film next year.
The actors have already started filming in New Zealand.
Jack, 54, will play Steve, the default character a player receives when they start Minecraft.
Minecraft Steve was originally a character included in Super Smash Bros.
Jack has played a video game character before, when he was Bowser in the movie Super Mario Brothers.
Jason and Danielle’s roles have not yet been revealed for the live-action film.
Jack appeared to confirm the news in January on his Instagram.
He posted a photo of himself on his social media profile reading a book called Minecraft Basics.
“An actor prepares,” Jack captioned the publish.
