The creators of 3 BODY Problem have shared their excitement for the next two seasons of their Netflix series, despite fan uproar.

On Friday, Netflix held its FYSEE space – an event to showcase Emmy nominees – in Los Angeles, California.

At the panel, 3 Body Problem creators David Benioff, DB Weiss and Alexander Woo confirmed the news that their series will continue for two more seasons.

In mid-May, the streaming service greenlit additional episodes but did not announce how many seasons the hit show would last, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Previously, producers expected four seasons to adapt the trilogy of science fiction books known as Remembrance of Earth’s Past by author Cixin Liu.

“We’ve included a lot of what we’ve loved since the beginning. [novels] in Season 1, but the vast majority of reasons we wanted to do this show are in Season 2,” DB said on the panel via Deadline.

“We’ve always wanted to get to the final page of the third book, and it’s very, very exciting for us to be able to do just that.”

“The story gets really wild in the best way possible,” he continued.

“With something this wild, there are a lot of choices to be made and a lot of things to discover.”

“We have been coming together to resolve them recently, especially in the last few months,” concluded DB.

THE COMMENTS

Although the show has been officially renewed, critics and viewers are lukewarm about the eight-episode first season.

From now on, the Rotten tomatoes scores reached 79% from critics and 78% from audiences.

Critics jumped to Xformerly known as Twitter, and criticized the announcement of the two seasons.

“They really need to step up!” one critic responded.

“The middle of the first season was really bad. How are they going to last two more seasons? It was amazing for the first 4-5 episodes!” another critic commented.

“They’re going to fumble like they did with Game of Thrones,” complained a third critic, referring to David and DB’s previous show.

“They better end well because I was so disappointed with the end of the first season,” a fourth person wrote.

“Great idea, poor execution!” one commenter agreed.

THE BOOKS

The first season adapted the first book, The Three-Body Problem, which details humanity’s discovery of an alien invasion force.

Much like the end of the first book, the seventh episode followed Ye Wenjie (Rosalind Chao) as she came to terms with humanity’s doom.

In the eighth episode, the first season finale adapted part of the second book, The Dark Forest, and detailed humanity’s failed attempt to attack the alien threat.

In the final moments of the finale, Da Shi (Benedict Wong) offers hope to Jin (Jess Hong) and Saul (Jovan Adepo) to continue the fight against the aliens.

The last book in the trilogy is known as Death’s End.
