A SOURCE at The US Sun revealed behind-the-scenes secrets about The Weeknd on the set of Max’s scrapped show The Idol.
The weekend34, created and starred in The Idol alongside Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose Depp, 25, before the series was canceled after just one season.
During the final scene of episode 5 of The Idol, the actors and extras crowded into the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, to watch their character, Tedros, perform.
An extra in the crowd spoke exclusively to The US Sun about his experience during the scene and how The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, delayed filming.
Tedros’ performance never made it into the series, as the show ended just as Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) was about to sing.
The series was supposed to have six episodes, but was reduced to five.
The source claimed that the extras ended up staying on set for 10 to 12 hours after being promised six to eight hours a day.
And The Weeknd is partly to blame for this, the source claims.
“He [The Weeknd] He was late a few times because we were waiting for him to start,” said the source.
The source also said that the singer took an hour longer to have lunch than the rest of the crew and cast.
This caused fatigue among concertgoers, who only received one meal and mini bottles of water all day.
The source claimed that doctors and crew said this was not how filming was supposed to happen.
The source stated, “Everyone was trying to stay positive, but they can definitely feel the energy in the room, like, ‘Hey, this isn’t working the way it’s supposed to work.’
“The general consensus was that he was the one who was late, not the extras. No one was saying that, but it was like, ‘Yeah, he’s running late. He’s still in his trailer,’ whatever the case may be.”
None of the other The Idol actors were on set at the time.
‘I WASN’T HITTING THE SHOT I WANTED’
In addition to the delay, The Weeknd had the crew film the scene multiple times.
The source said: “We reshot the same scene a million times, but I don’t think The Weeknd was getting the scene he wanted.
Everyone was trying to stay positive, but they can definitely feel the energy in the room, like, ‘Hey, this isn’t working the way it’s supposed to work.’

“Because he was very hands-on, like, ‘Hey, like, let me do it this way. And let me do it that way.'”
A representative for The Weeknd did not respond to US Sun’s request for comment.
In addition to starring in the show, The Weeknd also co-created it.
The Idol, which is about a pop singer who falls in love with a cult leader, was canceled after one season.
NO MORE!
After The Idol was cancelled, a source from Page six told the channel that The Weeknd was an “egomaniac.”
Another said that when the singer was in character “it wasn’t an ideal experience and I’m not looking forward to repeating it.”
Another source told the outlet that The Idol “was never intended to be a long-running show. It was always… a limited series.”
The show faced a lot of backlash because of its controversial sex scenes.
All five episodes of The Idol are still available to stream on HBO Max.
