SOFIA Vergara was worried about her “cellulite” and the appearance of her body before filming her first sex scenes in her hit Netflix show Griselda.

The 51-year-old actress played the lead role in the fictional dramatization of Griselda Blanco’s story from a struggling mother to becoming “the godmother” of the Miami drug empire.

Sofia had been in talks to take on the project for 15 years and it was finally released in early 2024, marking a new era for Sofia.

But despite years in the TV industry filming Modern Family and other projects, the idea of being filmed half-naked for a romantic moment left her sleepless.

In the show, Griselda is seen in bed with her husband Dario Sepulveda, played by actor Alberto Guerra, while the pair begin to work in the bedroom.

During a Netflix FYSEE event on Sunday, A Conversation With Sofia Vergara, in Los Angeles, the actress was asked if there was ever a moment when she felt like she might be lost.

“The sex scene. I don’t think I’ve ever done a sex scene. With Jay [in Modern Family] I didn’t do anything,” she laughed, referring to the character played by 78-year-old Ed O’Neill.

Sofia continued: “I’m 50! I mean, when I was 30, I wouldn’t have worried. I think I was worried that I would look horrible.

“I was like, ‘Where are they shooting me? Cellulite? Sideways. Uh, I’m vain, I guess. That one kept me awake, I guess.”

But she was happy with the result, saying, “It turned out good. It’s very dark and Andy, the director, is very artistic and he made me feel super comfortable and said, ‘We’re never going to stay too long’ for you.” [the camera].”

A NEW LOOK

But Sofia appeared different in the miniseries, as she was transformed for the role with the help of prosthetics that took up to three hours a day to put on.

Fans barely recognized the Colombian model with the wrinkled skin, new nose and wig, which she admitted she couldn’t wait to rip off after filming.

Sofia Vergara, 51, defies her age as she dances in a skintight top with fellow judge Heidi Klum on the set of AGT

She said: “I wanted her to look real. And so it took me forever and I couldn’t find a way to do tests and this and that. [the 1970s].

“But she also needed to be a [bit sexy]. She needed something because she had three husbands. She could get the guys.

“The teeth were fake. The nose, like, I had plastic, from here [her chin] Stop here. About my eyebrows.

“I would put duct tape on my breasts and my butt. And they didn’t shake their butts. [hot] In Los Angeles. I was like I was dying.”

She continued: “The wig, I couldn’t take off the nose or the eyebrows. The only thing I managed to remove during the day was my teeth to eat, but I only had 45 minutes [for] lunch.

“For the first three weeks, apart from all that, it took an hour and something at night. Imagine after 16 hours you have to sit there and take it all off.

“By the third week I was like, I don’t care [ripping it off quickly]. I lost half of my eyebrows. It was like, I can’t, I can’t. I have to go home immediately. I would leave it still sticky.

BACK PROBLEMS

“But I thought, who cares? I go home just to rush to sleep, to wake up and be on set the next day.

Sofia also talked about how she changed her posture when bending over to play Griselda after observing how her aunt walked, but regretted it after injuring her back.

She revealed: “In the third month of doing this, I woke up one morning and couldn’t go to work. I had a herniated disc.

“At 51, you can’t just walk around and put your body in a position [like that] per 16-hour day.

“So far, I’ve screwed up my back, because I’m doing this. The doctors said, ‘You’re crazy, at 51 you have to stretch and do things.'”

But she still had three months of filming and had already filmed so many scenes seeing her walk differently.

She shocked the public by admitting: “So they injected me. I couldn’t go to work that day, but I had to go back to work. It was brutal.”

But her experience as a whole did not put her off the project and she would still relive her experience.

“I was very happy doing it because it was an opportunity, because I was working with a Latin-Colombian director.

“The set was amazing, super friendly. I had never worked with Latin American actors and it was an experience for me.

“I would do it again. I wouldn’t get the damn prosthetics again.”
