Apple TV series Presumed Innocent renewed for season 2 – but the future of the Jake Gyllenhaal-led cast is unknown

Apple TV’s drama series Presumed Innocent has been renewed for another season.

On Friday, the popular streaming service revealed the news, however, the next season will have a new twist.

On a declarationApple TV said, “Following its widely acclaimed debut last month, led by a moving performance from Oscar-nominated star and executive producer Jake Gyllenhaal, Apple TV+ today announced that its global hit series ‘Presumed Innocent’ is set to premiere return for a second season.”

During the seven episodes, Jake, 43, played the lead role of Rusty Sabich, whose life is turned upside down after the murder of a colleague, and he is the suspect.

To conclude its statement, Apple also added that the second season “will unfold around an all-new, suspenseful case.”

It is not yet known whether the 2nd season will have the same cast.

Meanwhile, the Roadhouse actor and many others are set to return as producers like Emmy winners JJ Abrams and David E. Kelly.

The cast of the first season includes Ruth Negga, Renate Reinsive, Peter Sarsgaard and Elizabeth Marvel.

‘LOVING THIS SEASON’

On X, fans shared their true feelings about the police drama’s renewal.

“Season 1 has been intense and unmissable so far,” one wrote in Apple’s recent X post.

Another mentioned, “Next time, release the episodes in a gap of 2-3 days. The week-long waiting period is a pain!”

“Yes!!!! loving this season,” echoed a third.

“I think this is the best show after Defending Jacob in the crime/thriller genre on Apple TV+,” confessed a fourth.

In an interview with Savannah Guthrie on Today, actor Donnie Darko discussed why he chose Presumed Innocent as his introduction to TV.

Jake said: “It’s a super intriguing story.

He also talked about how excited he was to work with JJ and David and his interest in the characters at play.

“For me, being able to work in that space with people like that on a story like that, which, I think, puts all the characters in a really difficult position and you have to see them go through it.

“It offered so many opportunities to act and interact with all the great characters and I thought ‘I’m in,’” he said.

The show’s season finale is set to premiere on Apple TV on July 24.
