On Monday, Netflix released the first trailer for the new Terminator Zero anime series, which is an adaptation of the Arnold Schwarzenegger-led Terminator franchise.

This time, the Terminator will be played by Justified actor Timothy Olyphant.

The series is set in a dystopian future where human survivors must fight human-like robots.

Terminator Zero will jump between 2022 and 1997, as the latter year highlights the origin of the war to come.

According to Netflixexecutive producer Mattson Tomlin said the show will have a strong family tone.

“I was looking at the franchise and the first two films in particular and why are we still talking about this franchise 40 years later?” Mattson asked.

“You despoil the killer robots, despoil Judgment Day, what do you have left?

“You have stories about families.”

PROMISING FUTURE?

With many classic film adaptations often underwhelming, fans are skeptical about anime’s success.

Following the release of the Terminator Zero trailer, fans took to social media to share their thoughts.

One user X begged: “…please don’t suck.”

“Why does everything have to be adapted to all forms of media? Can’t things just be things anymore?” asked another.

While many are worried about the new anime, others are excited.

“I didn’t think I needed a Terminator anime, but this looks really cool!” exclaimed one fan.

“Hold on, this might be too much,” said another.

Terminator fans also liked the fact that the anime was released on August 29th this year, which pays homage to the second film, Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

The Terminator franchise

Here’s a look at all the Terminator movies and shows that have been released over the years:

1984: The Terminator

1991: Terminator 2: Judgment Day

2003: Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

2008: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

2009: Terminator Salvation

2015: The Terminator Genesis

2019: Terminator: Dark Fate

2024: Terminator Zero

Judgment Day happened on the same day a fan said, “The August 29th release is a ballgame.”

WHERE IS ARNIE?

While viewers are divided over the quality of the upcoming anime, Terminator fans are begging for the return of the original Terminator: Arnold Schwarzenegger.

He was also known as T-800 in the 2019 film Terminator: Dark Fate.

“Arnold better make a cameo!!” demanded a fan.

“I know this isn’t realistic, but we can’t bring this guy back one more time as the T800,” pleaded another.

“I want to see the T-800 appear in the series”, expressed a third.

Arnold nor the showrunner have yet to comment on a possible cameo.
