Created by 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation writer Matthew Hubbard, Loot follows Maya’s character Molly as she figures out what to do with her life after her divorce from her billionaire husband.

Alongside The Good Place alum, Loot features an impressive cast that includes Michaela Jaé Rodriguez as Sofia, Nat Faxon as Arthur, Ron Funches as Howard, and Joel Kim Booster as Nicholas.

The official synopsis for the series reads: “After divorcing her husband of 20 years, Molly must figure out what to do with her $87 billion settlement.”

It turns out to be the Wells Foundation, a charity she forgot she founded years before.

“She decides to get back involved with her charitable foundation and reconnect with the real world – finding herself along the way,” teases the synopsis.

Over the course of two seasons, Molly begins to find her groove overseeing the day-to-day running of the foundation.

In addition to starring in the comedy, Maya also serves as an executive producer.

The SNL star left viewers on the edge of their seats with a shocking series finale that aired earlier this year.

Romantic tension has been growing between Molly and her colleague Arthur. But after sworn off men for good, Molly boards her private jet with her chaotic assistant Nicholas in tow, leaving Arthur behind.

Will the promising couple be able to resolve this in season three?

Meanwhile, romance is also on the cards for Sofia, the experienced executive director of the Wells Foundation. However, she may have to put her personal life aside to fulfill Molly’s public promise to spend all of her money on the foundation, which seems like an insurmountable task for the team.

Hopefully, the upcoming third season will answer the big questions from season 2 and continue to follow the hilarious antics of Molly and her colleagues.

In a joint statement, Maya and producer Danielle Renfrew Behrens of Banana Split Projects expressed their excitement for the upcoming season: “We are so lucky to be spending more time with our talented cast and crew. Making this show with Apple TV+ has been a joy and we can’t wait to reunite with our ‘Loot’ family.”

“With each season, ‘Loot’ continues to bring joy, laughter and endearing characters to audiences around the world,” added Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+.

“We are thrilled to partner with Maya Rudolph and the entire cast and creative team behind ‘Loot’ to create even more exciting moments with an array of fan-favorite characters in season three.”

As for the premiere of the third series of Loot, fans may have to wait a while.

The first series premiered in 2022, while the second season premiered 20 months later in 2024. If Apple TV+ follows this pattern, the third series may not air until early 2026.
