In the global study, Great Britain ranked 37th, with a score of 60 out of a possible 100, below the European average of 61.

It fell seven places in the 2023 Hologic Global Women’s Health Index, which ranked nations by access to check-ups, basic needs, personal health and safety, and emotional well-being.

Taiwan led, scoring 72 points, followed by Kuwait, Austria and Germany.

Afghanistan came in last place.

The world average was 54.

Tim Simpson of Hologic said: “The UK is being overtaken by countries making more substantial gains.”

In the study of 79,000 women, 67 percent in the UK were confident they could get good care, down from 75 percent in 2020.

Janet Lindsay, from the charity Wellbeing of Women, said: “Research into women’s health does not receive enough funding.”

The Department of Health said: “The Government is providing a better standard of healthcare for women and girls.”
