KATY Perry went beyond pushing limits and dropping jaws in her revealing and controversial styles at Paris Fashion Week.
But although her “rebellious” clothes were chosen to attract attention, a psychologist says the star’s “tense face” signaled uncertainty and discomfort.

Katy, 39, walked the runway at a star-studded Vogue World event in Paris on Sunday.
The pop star wore a black cutout dress from Noir Kei Ninomiy’s Fall 2019 collection.
Katy strutted across a gray stone floor, followed by Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner at Place Vendome.
Vogue described the Roar hitmaker’s Paris Fashion Week outfit as a geometric nude dress.

But although the bold dress signaled confidence, fashion psychologist Professor Carolyn MairPhD, said the pop star seemed “worried.”
“Katy was trying really hard to get attention in Paris,” Mair told The US Sun.
“The Vogue World runway outfit had a lot of breasts on display and was very provocative.
“The dress had a sturdy leather top and a feminine, romantic skirt.
“The leaves and flowers were about rebirth and signal Katy trying to regenerate her music career.
“The leaves were cut with scalloped edges, which made them look bold and rebellious, especially when juxtaposed with the romantic and feminine skirt.
She looked insecure and nervous in all her Paris clothes, and her face looked tense.

“Katy’s shoes can be easily shredded and her tongue has been removed to show flesh.
“But instead of looking tough and provocative, Katy Perry looked unnatural and preoccupied.”

Katy’s sixth album and new single, Woman’s World, will be released in July. In June, she shared a clip of her track on TikTok.
And it wasn’t exactly a huge success.
“This song sounds terrible. Haha we need Katy back from summer 2010,” commented one fan.
“This song is really painful to listen to,” added another.
UNDER THE ARMOR
Katy can hope that some headline-making fashion will get the conversation about her back on track.
But according to Mair, Katy struggled to show strength in Paris following her underperforming new single.
“We can see that Katy was trying to deal with musical challenges and appear resilient and tough,” she said.
“But the person inside all these provocative clothes was not up to par.
“These clothes were also Katy’s armor chosen to protect her and represent a different and more resistant personality than herself.
“She looked insecure and nervous in all her Paris clothes, and her face looked tense.”

It seemed like the stakes were high for Katy amid her latest career comeback.
The star has previously weathered poor sales for her albums Witness in 2017 and Smile in 2020.
Smile has sold 1.5 million copies worldwide, compared to his 2010 release Teenage Dream, which sold over 12 million.
“I felt very insecure and had to go on a journey, both emotionally, spiritually and psychologically, to understand why I trusted validation so much,” Katy confessed to Channel Seven in 2020.

During her final residency show at Play Las Vegas in 2023, Katy appeared to be on the same trajectory.
“I’d like to see you try… Call it failure one more time!” she shouted on stage.

His follow-up single, Hot n Cold, topped the charts.
A series of catchy anthem-style hits followed. Likewise, fans loved his quirky, carefree cartoon character style.

Mair said Katy looked much more at ease when styled this way.
“Katy was much more comfortable before in all the cartoon character clothes,” she said.
“In Paris, Katy was trying to show individuality, but she couldn’t. It felt inauthentic.

Katy participated in profile-raising events throughout the City of Light, culminating in her Vogue World show.
On Tuesday, the star wore a red dress with a train covered in Woman’s World lyrics.
Upon entering the Ritz, her form-fitting Balenciaga number was paired with black tights.
His socks couldn’t get much lower, and you could see the muscle on the side of his stomach.

Katy also wore the Balenciaga coat on the same day for the Fall/Winter 2024-2025 couture show.
This time, she was naked underneath, from the waist up. Katy’s long legs were covered in holey black stockings.
RIP IT
Mair said Katy continued to want to appear provocative.
“The Balenciaga fur coat was trying to be provocative and, again, Katy was trying to look confident and defiant,” she said.
“His tights couldn’t get much lower, and you could see the muscles on the sides of his stomach.
“These ripped socks harken back to the Gothic era, where holes were supposed to look cool.
“The socks could also be very expensive, but they look destroyed and contrast with her luxurious long fur coat.”

Katy has been focusing on boosting her turbulent music career since leaving American Idol in May.
In February, she confirmed her departure from the reality show Jimmy Kimmel.
“I love the show so much, but I want to go and see the world and maybe bring new music,” she told him.
Meanwhile, Katy continued to work with Australian fashion designer Tatiana Waterford.

Mair stated that Katy wanted to support the release of her new album KP 6 by shocking fans.
Back-to-back outfit changes in Paris included a two-piece leather number for a radio interview on Sunday.
“Katy’s leather biker outfit was also very rocky, shocking and rebellious,” she said.
“This was done to show her as a tough, edgy nonconformist.
“The eye was drawn to the cut-out section that showed off her breasts, so some people may have wondered if Katy had any surgery and she wanted to show them off.
“The angel wings print on the front of her jeans drew attention to her thighs and genital area.
“Again, this was another outfit to show that she was confident and self-assured, rebellious and tough.
“Katy’s fingers and face sometimes felt stiff, which showed she wasn’t really feeling that way.”
