FROM THE Kardashians to gym-obsessed Instagram influencers, there seems to be a big butt shaking everywhere you look.
And for those of us who aren’t back blessed — and can’t be bothered to spend hours doing squats — it can be very demoralizing.
At 44 and a busy mum to Ruby, 16, and Mabel, eight, I don’t spend hours agonizing over my lackluster bottom, but every time I see it in the mirror I wish it were more shapely. .
Fortunately, however, there is help in the form of padded pants, which give the illusion of a curvy butt.
Online sellers including Amazon and Temu are awash with these stuffed panties, some for under £10.
Next week, underwear champion Marks & Spencer is launching its own bum-enhancing underwear for £15.
I decided to take a look at some to see if they were worth investing in.
I never realized I had a flat butt until I was in my early thirties, when my mom made a joke about us having matching flat butts.
She’s passed away now, but I still think about what she said.
From that day on, I was very self-conscious about my bottom. If someone compliments me on my appearance, I say, “Thanks, but I have a horrible, flat ass.”
I always thought of it as the worst part of my body.
About two years ago I lost a lot of weight, about 11 kilos. Now I’m a size 10 and can wear whatever clothes I want. I have a great figure and Cool boobs, but then there’s my ass. This disappoints me and I am bitter about it.
I don’t like my butt so much that I actually considered implants.
I have breast implants, so I’m not afraid to have surgery if it makes me look better. I definitely wouldn’t rule it out.
The only reason I haven’t done it yet is because it’s too expensive. But if these pants don’t work out, I’ll have to start saving.
I tried everything. Shapewear leggings just don’t work on a butt like mine.
They just seem to squish it rather than push it up to make it more beautiful.
I know I’m not alone. There are those of us for whom flat bottoms are in the genes. My daughter Ruby often comments on hers.
But I also have a lot of friends who talk about “the slut mom” – it’s never the same after pregnancy.
Or those whose weight fluctuated and their bottom paid the price.
For the sake of all women with normal butts, I’m willing to take mine off and try out these padded pants here.
Hopefully this will save me a fortune on implants.
BOTTOM LINE IN PADDED TROUSERS
Joy Shaper, £19.99: 5/5
WOW! In fact, I have an ass.
Normally a dress like this would hang on me, but it fits so much better and I feel so much more confident in it.
The pants are light and the extra reinforcement is just right.
In fact, they’re more comfortable than large panties when you’re sitting down, due to the extra cushioning.
The only downside is that you can slightly see the outline of the pads through the dress.
Dersitty, £12.99: 1/5
I’m not convinced of this pairing. They feel a lot more restrictive, but I think it’s more the material they’re made of – polyester and spandex.
The pads are not as full and the underwear are not as soft.
I feel quite conscious that the pads are there and I wouldn’t feel confident walking into a bar wearing these pants under my dress.
I want attention, but not for the wrong reasons.
MNSFA, £9.83: 2/5
THESE feel so weird – like I’m wearing some kind of device.
There is a long pad on both buttocks instead of one oval pad per cheek. So there is a big gap between my skin and the filler in some places.
The pants are low waisted, whereas I like mine high waisted.
With the dress on, you can barely see the lining, but if I went on a date and came home and took off my kit… . . Well, I wouldn’t do that. I would feel very ridiculous.
RosinKing, £16.99: 3/5
OH NO! They look like hospital pants.
The panties don’t fit, they’re so uncomfortable.
You wouldn’t be able to eat or drink anything in them.
But no pain, no gain, right? I have to admit, my butt looks better.
The panties only have one pad instead of two separate ones, and the overall appearance of my butt feels natural and fuller.
OK, I’m not Kim Kardashian – but this is as close as I can get.
Anghomi, £12.99: 4/5
I really like them, they are so comfortable and compact.
The cushions are in the right place. With them on, if I squeeze my butt, it almost feels like a real butt – there’s a natural firmness to the padding.
You can see the padding through the dress, but just barely.
The padding gives a natural curve to the background, unlike some others.
My second favorite after Joyshapers.
