THEY were one of the most iconic trends of the 90s and early 2000s and now they’re back on the shelves.

But fashion fans are in tears as the once hugely popular trend has emerged at Primark.

Perfectly paired with denim shorts, low-rise jeans, or low-hip skirts, baby tees were a staple of ’90s popular culture.

Short, fitted t-shirts ended just above the waist and were seen as a wardrobe staple – as they could be styled up or down for a variety of different occasions.

They adorned the torsos of some of the era’s biggest icons – Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Aniston, to name just a few.

The shirts came in almost every color, with graphics, slogans and even dazzling crystals.

And now they’re back, just as short and tight as before.

We’ve seen celebrities like Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, and Kendall Jenner welcome the return of baby tees, but not everyone seems to be interested.

Primark took to social media to show off its new baby tee – a short, white t-shirt with red cherry details in the center.

The clip was posted with the caption ‘In our cherry era’ and in the short video, we saw a close-up of the baby’s new t-shirt, alongside a pair of high-waisted blue denim shorts and a red shoulder bag to match.

But the TikTok clip, which was posted on Primark’s official account under the username @primacyIt clearly left many speechless as it quickly racked up 120,400 views.

Social media users were left completely divided over the new baby t-shirt – while some claimed they “needed” it, others described it as “horrible”.

Primark shoppers are divided over the Bridgerton-inspired pajamas as some say the floral designs ‘look like Wetherspoons products’

Not only that, but one fashionista claimed the baby tee gave her “horrible flashbacks” to being a teenager in the 90s.

One person said: “Horrible flashbacks to being a teenager in the 90s and there was nothing left to buy.”

All the 90s trends that are back

It may be 2024, but fashion fans are looking to the past when it comes to new styles. So what ’90s trends are making a comeback these days?

Claw Clips

These hair accessories were a huge trend in the ’90s, but now they’re more popular among those experimenting with the “clean girl” aesthetic. Designers like Prada have released their own versions, although there are thousands of colors and styles to choose from on the high street.

Platform slippers

Again a popular choice among fashionistas in the ’90s, these heels have made a comeback with designers like Balenciaga trying their luck with their own styles.

Cargo pants

Once worn by All Saints stars, cargo pants became a popular trend among teenagers in the ’90s. But now they’ve gotten a fashion makeover, with stars like Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber putting their own spin on the trend.

Jeans and a beautiful top

It was the phrase that defined fashion for a decade, and now famous faces like Sofia Richie are sporting the reinvented trend – pairing their own denim with a more sophisticated top. But are you willing to take your cute jeans and tops out of your wardrobe for a second time?

Another added: “But why is the cherry quality so bad?”

A third commented: “Horrible.”

However, at the same time, a fashion fan smiled: “I need it.”

Another chimed in: “I loved it.”

While someone else asked: “Where was summer last year?”

Which 90s trends are worth reusing?

Fashion editor Clemmie Fieldsend gives brutally honest opinions on which ’90s trends she’ll wear.

AS a child of the ’90s, seeing the trends I wore come back leaves me with mixed feelings.

Even though items like scrunchies bring happy memories to my mind, that doesn’t mean I like them.

For me, as an adult, I can’t shake the feeling of looking like a 9 year old on the way to school wearing a scrunchie.

Jelly shoes I don’t have many fond memories of, most of my memories are of gritty sand weighing down my feet and plastic cutting into my ankles – so I would avoid the blisters ladies.

I love reminiscing about 90s trends with glamorous supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford wearing simple skirts and oversized suits, trends like this are so stylish today and look glamorous.

Mom shorts were popular in the 90s, as were shorts that are big news this season, as well as fluid and baggy pants.

Let’s just hope shell costumes don’t suddenly appear in stores.
