FROM disco belts to low-rise jeans, it looks like the ’90s are back.

But while we’re happy to see some of the trends returning, there are some designers, Katie Maguire, who would hate to see a return in 2024.

Just like most of us, the stylish mother of three has also fallen victim to some pretty questionable looks and choices – which she now regrets and regrets.

“Fashion fails – there are many,” she recently confessed on an episode of The school catwalk podcast.

”It’s when I blindly follow a trend – it’s really good to stick to trends and I think as I get older I know when I can include something in my wardrobe and my own style.

”It’s when you try to recreate a look or buy something because it’s in fashion – and it’s the looks that I look back on and think ‘Oh, that’s not really me’.”

Among some of the trends you’d never see at London-based Katie Sporting is “anything ’90s.”

The early 2000s gave us some of history’s biggest icons, like Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera — but the legendary period also left millions traumatized by its fashion.

“The fishnet vests we used to wear or all the glow bracelets,” the photo producer and content creator reflected on some of the big style mistakes she made back then.

“And just like big earrings with big necklaces, kind of bringing it all together – too much,” noted Katie, whose healthy and stylish appearance Instagram page gained almost 100 thousand followers.

But it wasn’t just the questionable accessories and 90s outfits that left the mother-of-three horrified – Katie has also had her fair share of footwear fashion disasters.

“My fashion fails, my mishaps and fashion flaws — they’re all related to shoes,” she laughed on the podcast.

“Too many good things at once,” shout Primark shoppers as they discover the new Noughties range priced from £4.50

”I got a pair of Louboutins for Christmas years ago and then we went out for New Year’s […] – and then I fell with my Louboutin on New Year’s Eve on the dance floor… and broke my wrist and my elbow.”

Despite the painful incident, it was only the next day that Katie realized her wrist was in immense pain and took another day to see a doctor at a hospital – and since then, the celebrity-loved heels have become ”dinner shoes” ”.

“The shoes survived – but then they became dinner shoes,” Katie said.

”Walking from the taxi to the restaurant, from the restaurant to the taxi… yes, they are not for dancing.”

How to look chic on a budget

Fashion stylist Gemma Rose Breger and beauty journalist Samantha Silver have revealed how you can elevate your looks without spending hundreds of pounds.

  1. Never spend on designer jeans: River Island ”always has a great selection of modern jeans that follow current trends”. The high street retailer offers a huge range of sizes for UK 6 – UK 18 and three leg lengths – and prices start at an affordable £25.
  2. There are no rules for jewelry: ”Buy something at a car boot sale or charity shop, browse Vinted and eBay, buy something in the clothing section of your local supermarket when shopping, or check out high street clothing stores.”
  3. Don’t forget your favorite sites: With a growing number of second-hand sites like Vinted and Depop, there’s no excuse not to buy – or sell – used clothes. Gemma, for example, managed to get her hands on chic Chanel sunglasses for just £17.

All the 90s trends that are back

We may be almost halfway through 2024 – but when it comes to fashion, many are looking to the past for inspiration and style ideas.

Among some of the once-popular trends set to make a comeback this season are claw clips and even wobbly platform flip-flops, which used to give our ankles a hard time.

The high street is also full of cargo pants, which have become a cult favorite trend for All Saints stars.

But now they’ve gotten a fashion makeover, with models like Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber putting their own spin on the trend.
