AS A style coach for women over 40, I’m used to helping people stuck in a fashion rut. But since I started menopause, I’ve had to follow my own advice.
When it comes to shorts, I’ve always been clear. When I was a teenager, a family member commented that my legs weren’t very Cool – and that stayed with me.
I felt like I could never wear shorts and lived in jeans or pants. On vacation, she covered her legs with maxi skirts or linen pants.
But now I’m 51, and for the past five years I’ve helped other women feel good about themselves and make better style choices.
And I understood that what I was telling myself wasn’t true. I realized there is NOTHING WRONG with my legs!
Here I evaluate the best looks for exposing your legs on the High Street.
The suit
The first thing I love about them is the high waist because it holds my tummy in and makes me feel supported.
Plus, they were very soft and, with a linen blend, would be great in the heat.
I also love this tailored look – you can wear it to work or even a wedding.
RATING: 4/5
The jeans
COMFORTABLE and of good length, these shorts have a beautiful high waist.
I also love the shirt, with its loose, relaxed fit and contrasting cuff.
Pinstripes also work really well with jeans – they’re comfortable but stylish.
Finally, heels create a polished, well-put-together look.
RATING: 5/5
The shorts
THIS look feels relaxed – it’s a great outfit for a city break, a nice lunch or even school.
The sweater is super soft and comfortable, as are the shorts. I really like white shorts – they complement my complexion, go with everything and work for many occasions.
RATING: 3/5
The paper bag
THIS outfit is definitely something I would wear on vacation.
It’s comfortable, breathable and the shoes have a golden touch.
The shorts, which come with a belt, are brilliant. I love their silhouette and the high waist flatters my figure.
Together with the raffia-like texture of the belt, it creates a beautiful tonal look.
RATING: 4/5
The personalized
PINK It’s my favorite color, so the shorts are already a winner for me.
I like the tailored cut, with a slight arrow in the middle. They work well dressed in this t-shirt and simple sandals.
They would also look great dressed up with a bold blouse, so I would look really worn out in them.
RATING: 5/5
The khaki
THE khaki shorts were so, so soft.
They fit me really well and although the fabric is quite fluid, they still supported my stomach, which is a bonus.
They are also very easy to wear and go well with summer sandals and a tailored jacket, here or abroad.
RATING: 3/5
The linen
THIS look looks quite elegant, even though it’s linen – a fabric known for creasing and associated with being loose and casual.
The elegant navy color reinforces that tidier vibe that I love – and the long, straight shape of the shorts is very comfortable.
I recommend scaling!
