It’s the trend that all fashionistas loved in the early 2000s.

And now the viral disco belt – often dubbed “the most unflattering accessory” of the ’90s – is back on the streets.

In recent weeks, Primark has left fans divided with its 90s-inspired trends

In recent years, shoppers have seen the resurgence of many once-beloved trends we loved decades ago, whether it’s low-rise jeans or kitten heels that are back in fashion in 2024.

Eager to keep up with the demand for Y2K fashion, Primark has also launched a series of 90s-inspired clothing pieces – and their Western Belt with Disc Detail is just one of many examples hitting store shelves.

Priced at a bag-size £7, the accessory comes in black and dark brown and features silver and gold metal embellishments.

Fashionistas also have plenty of styling options for this versatile purchase, like low-waisted bottoms or a layered skirt if you’re going for a more bohemian aesthetic.

However, while some certainly can’t wait to get their hands on it, the disc belt hasn’t proven to be a huge hit on social media.

”Oh, we’re really doing this, aren’t we, Primark?” was how one horrified customer, mum Tasha, felt at the news.

Sharing the shocking discovery on TikTok, the fashionista revealed the accessory was placed alongside adorable hair ribbons as well as high-waisted shorts.

”It’s not a bad joke. The discus belt has officially returned,” wrote Tasha in the caption of the video.

”I feel a thousand years old.”

While there are some trends we can’t wait to make a comeback, the shocked shopper noted that the disc belt certainly wasn’t one of them.

“This one should not be repeated,” Tasha continued in the comments.

It’s safe to say that it wasn’t just the modern mother who couldn’t believe what she had just seen, as hundreds of people gathered to express their horror and disgust.

One person said: ”This one must not return.

”Just know that knee-high gladiator sandals aren’t far behind.”

Someone chimed in: ”I’m more upset because I’m at an age now where I’m seeing things coming back!”

The Y2K trends that divide Primark fans

Whether you’re ready or not, it looks like nineties trends are here to stay.

Discount retailer Primark has also released its own versions of the once-loved looks and accessories – but it’s safe to say not everyone will be rushing to snap them up.

Recently, for example, the store left fashionistas in splits with its pink velvet tracksuit – which some felt was giving off a major “Paris Hilton, 2001” vibe.

Meanwhile, in the accessories aisle, Primark’s £3.50 bracelets are making all the noise, with shoppers bagging two sets.

While we’d love a return, there’s one footwear trend most shoppers aren’t prepared to see – and Primark’s ballet shoes are one of them.

“You can’t even walk in them because it hurts,” shouted one fashionista.

“Girls, I can’t do this again,” shouted one fashionista.

“Primark, you need to prepare us millennials if you want to abandon things like this!” wrote another.

“I need extra therapy now,” the woman was traumatized.
