Let’s face it, if we manage to enjoy a few days of sunshine in the UK, you can bet that rainy weather is just around the corner…

This summer has already been very variable, often with blue skies in the morning turning to rain clouds by lunchtime.

I treat this in-between weather as I would any other transitional season, and the key is layers.

If you’re taking clothes on and off, you’re going to need a big bag to carry them, and I love this luxury bag from Marks & Spencer that can hold it all.

I love jeans, but in summer I prefer creams or whites, and these barrel jeans from Tu at Sainsbury’s are a play on high-end designers like Agolde and Ganni.

A white tee with a twist keeps my look from looking too flat, and I add texture and interest with this new sweater from H&M—I love the cream running down the sleeves and neck—and it looks great on the shoulders, too.

Finish the look with a tonal cropped jacket from Zara and flat Mary Janes—a summery, puddle-proof alternative to sandals.

I feel like all I’ve done this year so far is get dressed all time, because he can’t seem to make up his mind.

My wardrobe staple is a blazer – I have all kinds in different colors and they’re great for when the weather is unpredictable as you can just throw one on and they instantly make an outfit look dressier.

Underneath my blazer, I opted for a cute graphic tee, which I can wear on its own if the sun comes out.

These striped pants from River Island are lightweight and ideal for all seasons.

Sneakers are my favorite shoes as they are comfortable and practical for all weathers.

Finishing off my look is a chic bag from Mango and a gorgeous layered necklace from Oliver Bonas.

Speaking as someone who won’t be taking many holidays abroad this year, I hope the sun is here to stay.

I’ve swapped my winter wardrobe for my summer one, but I’m pairing it all with a short trench and a trusty umbrella—just in case.

Switching from my longer overcoat to a cropped version was a game changer as it’s a lightweight, layering piece that’s easy to take off if the weather gets warm.

This crochet knitted vest is going viral at the moment, so snap it up quickly before it sells out – it currently also comes in a beautiful bright blue.

Then I added jeans, a red bag and sunglasses, to be prepared for when the sun decides to come out.

I’m usually already in summer mode, but this year I haven’t even unpacked my summer wardrobe yet.

What a failure it has been so far! But on the bright side, at least my garden looks lush.

I really like summer shorts, so even when the weather isn’t great, I’m happy to polish my pins and take off my shorts.

This year, I opted for a longer line shorts style for a little more coverage, and I always wear a long-sleeved Breton top and cropped jacket.

This look is perfect for a coastal break I have planned in a few weeks.

Hottest trends for spring/summer 2024

Fabulous fashion editor Clemmie Fieldsend shared the biggest trends on the high street and runway this spring/summer.

SHORTS

I know, shorts for the summer. Innovative. But you’ll see them everywhere this year, from micro hotpants to long pants, denim shorts styles to tailoring and everything in between, they’re a must-have for any occasion.

WHITE

White often goes hand in hand with summer holidays, but whether you’re in the UK or abroad, you’ll see plenty of head-to-toe white looks.

The street is already a white wash with the trend including shoes and accessories.

HIGH SHINE

Whether metallic or sequins, for 2024 glitter isn’t just for Christmas.
Expect to see shimmery looks at festivals, weddings, or even a barbecue in your neighbor’s back garden, paired with bright blocks or simple whites.

LOOSE FUNDS

Baggy, baggy pants dominated our wardrobes from fall through winter, but as we head into the warmer months, expect baggy pants.
From cool cotton to lightweight linen, flowy pants should have a firm place in your wardrobe.

BOMBS

Ballet flats and Mary Janes have been making their way back into our good books for a while now, but for summer they feel less ballerina and more beach-ready.

Woven styles and knitted textures are hot on the runways and streets, think of the 2024 jelly shoe.

GO GIRL

All things romantic and feminine are in for spring with sheer fabrics, pastel shades of blue, yellow and pink dominating the runway. Embellished with bows, lace or flowers, most looks should have a hyper ‘feminine’ element.
