This small bow is often found on men’s and women’s shirts.

It is placed between the shoulder blades, where the yoke (upper back) of the shirt meets the pleat.

History has revealed that the loop was actually designed for a very practical purpose, one that many people today often ignore.

According to many online sources, the reasoning behind the cycle began in the Navy.

Navy sailors didn’t have much storage or wardrobe space for their uniforms, so their shirts were designed in this specific way.

Thanks to the practical loop, sailors can easily hang their shirts without needing a hanger.

As a result, the shirts would hang perfectly and also dry faster, making the fashion addition very convenient.

But the Navy wasn’t the only one that used the clips – clothing manufacturer GANT they added a ‘locker loop’ to their shirts that were placed at the back of the collar.

The reason for this was so that their customers, mostly Ivy League college students, could hang their shirts conveniently.

But after that, students changed the meaning of the loops to share their relationship status.

If a man’s strap had been torn off or removed, it meant they had been taken.

This trend of tearing loops was very popular in the 60s.

People became so obsessed with shirt straps that you could even buy them separately and send them in the mail.

However, nowadays shirt straps do not have as much importance and meaning.

Damage is more likely to result from burnout rather than revealing the current status of a person’s relationship.
