A WOMAN has been criticized online over her clothing choices for a wedding she will be attending.
Taking to Reddit, a user by the name of I’m a Doctor If I Say I Was Asked opinionis wearing a Shien dress and the responses have been mixed.

O publish was shared on the Wedding Attire Approval subreddit.
The title was ‘Will This Work for an October Wedding in the Finger Lakes?’
She wrote: “No real dress code, but closer to cocktail.
“I want something that’s breathable if it’s still hot in October, but also something stylish.
“I would also love recommendations for something similar but bigger and better quality than Shein. Thanks.”
The answers arrived. One person said: “A shein knit dress is not elegant. It looks cheap.”
Another wrote: “Mesh is definitely not elegant…keep looking.”
A third said: “I think it’s a bit casual country. I like Eloquii for my plus size cocktail dresses.”
A fourth commented: “It’s cute but I’m afraid it’s not a good option if it’s cold.
“It can get really cold up there. I just looked and the maximum is 62 and the minimum is 42.
“When it gets dark at 6pm, you will probably regret that choice.
“Plus, it feels more spring/summer than fall. Personally, I would choose something else.”
However, others were more supportive. Someone wrote: “I think this works.
“I would wear more elegant jewelry and ditch the cowboy hat, but I like the shoes they wear on the model.”
A second wrote: “I love this dress.”
On Shien, the normal price for the dress is £16.49, but this has been reduced to £14.99.
The floor-length black mesh dress is covered in flowers with a round neckline and a slit on the side.
This wouldn’t be the first time that wedding guests’ wardrobe choices have caused controversy on social media.
A woman shared a TikTok about her mother, who wore not just white but a similar style of dress to hers on her big day.
Erin Gina Hammond shared the expiration date in a video and wrote the caption, “She originally wanted to wear green but we both fell in love with this white dress!”
People quickly took to the comments to share their displeasure with the situation, even though the bride didn’t seem to mind.

A third wrote: “I can honestly say she looks beautiful but if my mum rocks my wedding next week in Greece in white she is being played in the pool head first.”

The idea of not wearing a white dress goes back to not wanting to ‘outshine the bride’.
Which, to be fair, is unlikely. Not only did she spend a small fortune on the day’s look, but she’s also one of only two people in attendance who knows (and hopefully likes) all of the guests.
So the main risk you run is looking really silly – and being gossiped about by strangers.
A wedding guest I met in October 2022 is still etched in my mind. I still don’t know which was worse: the fact that she was so drunk that she was bumping into people on the dance floor, or her decision to wear a white dress, which was arguably made better by the glass of red wine she drank drunk. She went down alone.
I know weddings are expensive for everyone and it’s fair if you don’t want to buy a whole new outfit – I’m all for repurposing what’s already in your wardrobe.
Just avoid the white dress for the bride’s sake – and yours.
