The supermarket caused a frenzy in April with its cream ric rac dress hailed as “perfect”.

One determined fashionista even admitted to driving an hour to track it down as it was out of stock in her local store and online.

But she added: “Man, she’s worth it. The shape, the length, the ric rac – it’s perfect and a complete bargain.”

And now Asda bosses have given shoppers a summer treat by releasing the viral dress in a new color – with fashion fans insisting it’s better than the original.

The Black Ric Rac Woven Boho Midi Dress features a tied collar and white details, costs just £26 and comes in sizes 8-24.

The best part? It’s 100% cotton, so it will be perfect for warmer weather.

The elegant flowing sleeves also help keep you even cooler.

Midsize Mom, Claire I bought the size 14 dress this week after finding it online.

She said: “[This] The ric rac dress is the same as the cream version that went viral and sold [out] about a month ago.

“Actually, I love the black and white version even more.

I found George’s perfect summer set in Asda – it costs £14 for the full outfit and is ideal for hot weather

“I went down a size for a more fitted look around the bust.”

And other buyers completely agree, as one echoed: “I think I loved it even more than the original. I’m obsessed.”

Someone else gushed: “That dress, Asda knocking it out of the park!”

A third wrote: “That dress, wow, wow, wow.”

“I just ordered the dress too, it’s been out of stock for a long time in my size,” said a fourth.

A fifth shouted: “When I said I ran out to buy that first dress.”

Meanwhile, a sixth revealed: “I’ve just ordered the black and white dress, it’s so beautiful!”

If this has inspired you to visit your nearest Asda, there’s another dress you might want to look out for.

Shopper Catrina praised a £35 white maxi dress from Asda Studio Edit as “absolutely amazing”.

She added: “I love it. I actually can’t believe this is from Asda.

“You know what to do. You need to run, not walk to Asda because it will go by quickly.”

Is supermarket fashion the new high street?

Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:

Supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, when you go to do your weekly food shopping, you can also choose from a selection of stylish, purse-friendly pieces for the whole family.

Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent rise for the quarter thanks to “strong growth in clothing” and M&S has claimed the title of number one womenswear destination on the high street.

Asda’s George clothing range made £1.5m for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes were sold at full price rather than discounts and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales also rose by 2 per cent last year .

So what is it about supermarket fashion that is so successful?

Not only are the clothes really affordable, they’re also good quality – many of them being part of programs like the Better Cotton Initiative.

They often stick to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year.

Plus, because they buy so much inventory, they can deliver parts quickly and buy cheaper because of the volumes.
