But one woman explained that she found her “dream dress”, only for her mother to insist she would look “fat” in it.

She took to Reddit to share the situation, titling her post: “My mom thinks my wedding dress will make me look fat.”

“I’ve already picked out my dream dress to be custom made, and it’s a simple satin ball gown with pleats and off-the-shoulder shoulders,” she said.

“I have chubby arms and a large bust (34DDD), so my mother insists that this design will not look good on me and will make me look fat.

“I want to make sure my mom likes the dress, but it’s also my big day.

“It’s taken me a long time to find this design that I love.”

The woman, who said she weighs 20 pounds and is 5 feet 7 inches tall, added that because she is having a destination wedding, she won’t be able to try on the dress until she gets there.

“Any suggestions on any other designs that would suit chubby arms/large bust?” she asked.

“I look for modest/slightly conservative dresses.”

However, people in the comments section were quick to chide her mother for saying that about her wedding dress.

Mother of the Bride’s Bold Fashion Choice Divides the Internet!

“I just want to say that I (respectfully) hope your mom stops being an idiot,” one said.

“You said it yourself, it’s your big day – you’ll look so beautiful in whatever dress you choose and you’ll look stunning as you marry the love of your life.

“Focus on yourself, your partner and all the good memories you will make.

“Your mother doesn’t understand and I’m sorry for her.”

“Your dress will look beautiful on you,” insisted another.

‘The ball gown skirt with shoulder detailing will give you a classic hourglass silhouette.

“The comment about your mother’s body can go in the trash where it belongs.”

“It sounds like your mom is projecting her insecurities onto you,” a third agreed.

Wedding dress trends 2024

Sophie Creed, bridal designer and founder of bridal brand e&w Couture, shared this year’s most popular wedding dress designs.

Sustainable Chic

Bridal fashion in 2024 is embracing a powerful shift toward sustainability, with brides taking a close look at the fabrics being used to make dresses.

Many brides also look to wear a hand-me-down dress or a vintage number.

Boho Happiness

The bohemian aesthetic is simple, relaxed elegance – ideal for laid-back weddings. Whether in the garden, on the beach or under the stars, the boho trend is also great for nature-inspired weddings.

Couples opting for outdoor spaces and bohemian-inspired dresses with fluid silhouettes, floral lace and whimsical details that blend with the natural setting. It’s about bringing the romance of the outdoors into your wedding wardrobe.

Bohemian-inspired dresses often feature vintage-inspired lace, flowing sleeves, and ethereal details that stand the test of time.

Satin elegance

Satin wedding dresses are winning the hearts of brides who appreciate the marriage of modern simplicity and classic luxury.

This trend suits weddings that prioritize an elegant and refined aesthetic, making it the ideal choice for formal celebrations, chic weddings in the city or any event where the bride imagines herself in a dress that exudes sophistication and grace.

Bold Romance

Big, bold moderns show a shift in bridal fashion.

This trend is for the bride who dares to be different, breaking with tradition and embracing a vibrant, contemporary aesthetic on the most important day of her life.

“I have similar measurements, if not identical to yours. I can guarantee that women our size look good in dramatic ball gowns, and I think everyone looks good in the off-the-shoulder look.

“You have excellent taste, if I may say so.

“I love that you are going for a classic and timeless look!

“And by the way? I’m 200 percent biased, but I love my body.

“You should love your body too.

“After all, this is the body your fiancé fell in love with and wants to marry and be with forever.

“That, for me, is what matters most.

“Not your mother’s trash, totally unwanted opinion.”
