Admitting it was crazy, Mariel shared photos of herself and guests while getting married.

She wrote: “Call me crazy, but I had a strict and controversial dress code for our wedding guests…”

The bride revealed that she saw the idea years ago and knew she would have to do it at her own wedding.

To match her neutral rural theme, she asked all her guests to wear very specific colors on her big day.

She revealed: “We asked all guests to wear cream, white, grey, beige or dark pink for a super consistent and strong color palette.”

Along with the wedding invitations for her guests, she sent out the exact colors she wanted her guests to wear.

It included an extensive description of the bride’s theme along with images of outfits and styles she liked.

Mariel added that all the wedding guests followed the strict rules set out and that the color scheme made her day even more special.

Despite most brides wanting to stand out, Mariel even had her bridesmaids wear floor-length champagne silk gowns.

But in the end, she loved how the whole look came together.

EXCL- I’m so tense that I MADE money from my wedding – I refused to serve free drinks, requested money and sent invitations via WhatsApp

The clip soon went viral on his TikTok account @Merielwoolf with more than 195 thousand views and 4,000 likes.

People were quick to share their thoughts about their strict marriage code.

One person wrote: “As a guest I would love this, I don’t know why everyone is hating it. Having a clear view from the bride about what colors she likes means no one will bother her if her dress looks good.”

Another commented: “It’s a lovely idea but some people wouldn’t want to buy new things.”

Dos and Don’ts of Wedding Dress Codes

By Josie Griffiths, Fabulous deputy editor and bride-to-be.

Josie Griffiths said: I will never forget the wedding I went to in October 2022 where a guest wore a white dress.

It was ill-fitting, knee-length, and looked nothing like a real wedding dress, but that didn’t stop everyone from judging her.

The rules about wedding guest attire — which are annoyingly stricter for women than men — are meant to be about “not outshining the bride,” which is actually pretty hard to do on someone else’s wedding day.

But if you get it wrong as a guest, you’ll end up looking a little silly and in front of a bunch of people who don’t know you personally.

It’s just not the occasion for your new white dress, no matter how much online stores love to throw it in the ‘wedding guest’ section.

I would avoid anything too tight/short and ditch the super formal dresses unless the dress code requires them – you don’t want to wear a long sequin dress to a smart casual event.

Personally I don’t like black dresses either, it’s not a funeral.

Otherwise you will be quite safe. Technically, wearing red means you’re in love with your fiancé, but that’s the kind of rule most people would scoff at these days.

I always check the bridesmaids’ color, just to be safe, after the Spanish wedding, where I saw them walk down the aisle in exactly the same dress I had in my Asos shopping basket weeks before.

When in doubt, it’s safest to just check with the bride… but if you’re already doubting your dress, this might be the answer you need.

“I need all big events to have a strict and clear dress code PLEASE it makes everything so much easier,” wrote a third.

Others weren’t convinced it was a good idea.

Meanwhile, a fourth said: “Sad beige wedding.”

“This is why I hate going to weddings. Even as a guest now it’s expensive,” said a fifth.

Someone else added: “I hate this because these colors do absolutely nothing for me so I would probably feel uncomfortable all day.”
