MOVING to her dream £13,000 wedding dress, Christina Singh admired the huge ruffles and tight corset.

She felt stunning and was the icing on the cake for the bride whose father insisted money was no object on his daughter’s big day.

However, her brother delivered some brutal home truths because despite the exorbitant price, he was far from impressed – he said she looked like a chicken.

Christina, 27, was delighted when her parents told her there was no budget for her wedding and she decided to go for a dress made by renowned wedding dress designer Pnina Tornai.

Her father even made her dressing dreams come true and arranged a meeting with the designer herself.

“Wherever we go, we get a lot of compliments… We’re like a couple of movie stars.

Bride Cristina

Speaking about Christina on TLC’s Say Yes To The Dress, her mother, Sarina, explains: “I spoil her, her father spoils her even more.

“She always gets what she wants and always gets the best.”

“I know I’m my dad’s favorite,” Christina added.

Christina, who is planning a huge wedding with over 500 guests, needed a huge dress.

Describing herself and her future husband as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, she says:

“Everywhere we go we receive a lot of compliments.

“We’re like a couple of movie stars.”

I’m 5’7″ and a size 16 and I bought beautiful, great value dresses for wedding guests at a store I haven’t been to in 15 years

The dress, with a mermaid cut with ruffles and embroidered with thousands of jewels, caught Christina’s attention as soon as she saw it online.

“This dress is exactly what I want,” she says.

“Glitzy and glamorous, this could be the dress.”

And on the day of the big test, Christina couldn’t wait to hear her family’s opinion, but the answer wasn’t what she expected.

Wedding dress trends 2024

Sophie Creed, bridal designer and founder of bridal brand e&w Couture, shared this year’s most popular wedding dress designs.

Sustainable Chic

Bridal fashion in 2024 is embracing a powerful shift toward sustainability, with brides taking a close look at the fabrics being used to make dresses.

Many brides also look to wear a hand-me-down dress or a vintage number.

Boho Happiness

The bohemian aesthetic is simple, relaxed elegance – ideal for relaxed weddings. Whether in the garden, on the beach or under the stars, the boho trend is also great for nature-inspired weddings.

Couples opting for outdoor spaces and bohemian-inspired dresses with fluid silhouettes, floral lace and whimsical details that blend with the natural setting. It’s about bringing the romance of the outdoors into your wedding wardrobe.

Bohemian-inspired dresses often feature vintage-inspired lace, flowing sleeves, and ethereal details that stand the test of time.

Satin elegance

Satin wedding dresses are winning the hearts of brides who appreciate the marriage of modern simplicity and classic luxury.

This trend suits weddings that prioritize an elegant and refined aesthetic, making it the ideal choice for formal celebrations, chic weddings in the city or any event where the bride imagines herself in a dress that exudes sophistication and grace.

Bold Romance

Big, bold moderns show a shift in bridal fashion.

This trend is for the bride who dares to be different, breaking with tradition and embracing a vibrant, contemporary aesthetic on the most important day of her life.

With uncontrollable laughter, his brother scoffs: “You look like a bird.

“I think it looks like a chicken or an ostrich.”

Her father also shared his own criticism of the dress.

“I don’t like the blouse, you can see it,” he complains, referring to the dress’s transparent bodice.

“But that’s the style!” Christina argues, much to her father’s disapproval.

“No, no, no, no, no,” he responds.

However, Pnina thought Christina looked stunning in the dress and called her a “diva.”

Trying to convince Cristina’s father to change his mind about the dress, the designer says: “It’s just that fashion is sexier today”.

“I’m from the old school,” admits the father.

Christina then tried on three more dresses, but loved them all so much that she couldn’t decide.

In the end, Christina’s father agreed to spend a whopping £35,000 on a custom-made dress, which combines aspects of the hen dress and the other dresses she tried on.

It features a beaded lace bodice and a mermaid train that flows elegantly to the floor.

“This dress will be worth every penny,” says Christina beaming.
