It can be difficult to find a dress that matches both style and color for a wedding.
But one woman admitted she thought she had found the perfect fit in a light blue number.
However, when she started taking flash photos of the dress, she saw that it was turning white – which left her worried that it might not be appropriate for a wedding.
Her other concern was that the revealing dress would be too sexy to wear to someone’s nuptials.
“My concern is mainly the side slit, I assume it is very high?” she wrote alongside a photo of said dress in ‘Wedding Attire Approval’ Reddit thread.
“It goes without saying that I would wear different underwear and not leave my bra exposed.
“The cut of the dress means there is no cleavage on display.”
She added that although some of her friends told her it was appropriate, her “gut is saying no.”
And most people in the comments section insisted that she should trust her instinct as the dress is not appropriate to wear to a wedding.
“The material is very casual,” wrote one.
“The dress is very tight (a body is a BODY, it’s a question of suitability).
“Seams and lace give off evening gown vibes.”
“This dress is for when you’re the star,” added another.
“This isn’t someone else’s wedding!”
“This looks like something you wear under your dress,” commented a third.
“The silhouette, the bow, the visible stitching on the cups… everything gives the impression of a slip or shapewear.”
“Yeah, anything with those little bows looks like underwear to me,” someone else agreed.
As another added: “It’s also very tight, which makes it look even more like a shapewear.”
Clothing Etiquette for Wedding Guests
If you’re struggling to decide on a dress for wedding season, here are some rules on what not to wear so you don’t get into trouble.
- Folklore says that wearing red to a wedding means you slept with the groom.
- Casual attire like jeans and flip-flops should always be avoided.
- Any color that can be chosen like white or cream – even if it isn’t.
- Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
- Wearing white is a big no-no if you’re not the bride.
“The lace, the structure around the breast area, the front neckline, the slit, and the material — it all makes it look like a sexy nightgown or something,” said someone else.
“It’s also extremely tight. I’d say it’s not appropriate for a wedding guest (although you’d look great in it).”
“No, it looks like lingerie,” advised another.
“The color is pretty, but try to find something that isn’t too tight.
“Also as a general rule for weddings, you can have either a neckline or a side slit, not both.”
“No. People would think you were trying to get the bride’s attention,” someone sighed.
And others insisted that although the dress wasn’t appropriate for a wedding, she should save it for another more suitable occasion.
“It’s a beautiful dress and looks fantastic on you, but save it for a night out on the town,” wrote one.
“Wear this everywhere except a wedding haha,” added another.
“It’s totally hitting you!”
“No, for a wedding, but you look beautiful in it, girl!!!” a third praised it.
As someone said, “Not for a wedding, but find somewhere else to use it because it was made for you.”
