Speaking with Express.co.uk Susie Nelson, founder of Modes and morerevealed that the first step to looking and feeling your best is having the right underwear.

A popular pair to have on hand is the Rae Firm Control High Waist Briefs from John Lewis for just £25.

Sure, £25 might seem exorbitant for a pair of trainers, but these aren’t your everyday underwear.

In fact, the underwear has a lot of glowing reviews online, with many people giving them five-star ratings.

One satisfied buyer said: “I have been waiting for this product all my life.

“This does everything you need it to do. Plus, I can put this pair on. I struggled to find something I could grab and hold to pull in my belly and butt.

“I love that the material is soft and doesn’t attract so much that you can’t breathe. I tried other products that were so strong that I couldn’t hold them and pull in my belly.

And a second agreed: “They worked wonderfully for the wedding I recently attended.

“Very comfortable and give me a Cool form. The only problem is that it could have a little better grip at the top,” they wrote.

And another five-star review says, “The best thing is that it held up comfortably the entire time I used it.”

Supermarket chic or high street fancy – can you tell the difference between fancy jeans more than double the price of their supermarket twins?

Once you’ve got your underwear under control, it’s time to think about colors.

It’s not just an old wives’ myth that dark colors are slimming, which is why Susie suggested using dark shades like black and navy for a slimmer silhouette.

These actions are “more slimming than light colors”, according to the professional, so a great option if you don’t know what to wear.

And if you wear jeans a lot, you should switch to high-waisted styles if you haven’t already.

Susie also recommended wide-leg jeans, which help elongate the body and create more flattering proportions.

As for specific patterns and designs, anything with a vertical colored stripe down the side is a winner, Susie said.

The dark stripe will create a sort of optical illusion, making you look slimmer – genius, right?

Sticking to solid colors is better than busy prints, which can draw attention to the wrong areas, and always opt for a V-neck over scoop necklines, she added.

Lastly, the fashion genius noted, “Accentuate your best characteristics with tight clothing and disguise other areas with looser clothing.”

So, if you love your waist but want to hide your belly, opt for something that cinches in at the waist.
