But people claimed her dress “shouldn’t be worn to a wedding” and many said they would throw red wine at it if they saw it on someone’s big day.

The brunette beauty took to social media to show off her dress, which she teamed with a pair of white high heels.

Katie curled her hair and wore gold jewelry as she asked her followers: “Is this dress too white to wear to a wedding? HELP.”

The content creator, who lives in Nashville, US, gave people an up-close look at the dress, which she claimed was not white.

She explained: “The dress is obviously cream…not too white?!?”

Katie’s midi dress has a pretty white skirt and colorful corset top.

The 25-year-old influencer, passionate about fashion, turned around to show off a complete look in the square back of the dress.

But the TikTok clip, posted under the username @shopbrooklyn blvdIt clearly left many speechless as it quickly racked up 1.3 million views.

Social media users were stunned by Katie’s wedding guest dress – and not only did people deem it ‘inappropriate’, but many claimed it would be ‘disrespectful’ to wear it.

NO WHITE ALLOWED

One person said: “No shade of white including cream, ivory, beige, anything remotely close should be worn to a wedding!”

I’m 5’7″ and a size 16 and I bought beautiful, great value dresses for wedding guests at a store I haven’t been to in 15 years

Another added: “Girl, it’s common sense to never wear white to a wedding, ANY shade of white.”

Someone asked: “Is this satire????”

To this, Katie confirmed: “Absolutely not.”

Why You Should Never Wear White to a Wedding

JOSIE Griffiths, deputy editor of Fabulous, who is getting married this year, shared her views on wearing white to a wedding…

Josie Griffiths said: I tend to consider myself low maintenance from a fashion and beauty perspective.

I can leave the house in 20 minutes in the morning, I usually do my mascara on the bus or subway, and I spend my work days at home in my gym gear.

But when it comes to my wedding this summer, everything has gone out the window.

Professional hair and makeup is scheduled for 8am, I’ve changed into all my wedding dress, bought designer shoes, and even bought a second dress for the evening.

So when I think about someone wearing a white dress on my big day, yes, I think I would be very angry.

The idea of not wearing a white dress goes back to not wanting to ‘outshine the bride’.

Which, to be fair, is unlikely. Not only did she spend a small fortune on the day’s look, but she’s also one of only two people in attendance who knows (and hopefully likes) all of the guests.

So the main risk you run is looking really silly – and being gossiped about by strangers.

A wedding guest I met in October 2022 is still etched in my mind. I still don’t know which was worse: the fact that she was so drunk that she was bumping into people on the dance floor, or her decision to wear a white dress, which was arguably made better by the glass of red wine she drank drunk. She went down alone.

I know weddings are expensive for everyone and it’s fair if you don’t want to buy a whole new outfit – I’m all for repurposing what’s already in your wardrobe.

Just avoid the white dress for the bride’s sake – and yours.

While one user wrote: “Cute dress but girl you know better!!”

Katie then stated: “It’s cream!! Very different from the austere white!”

INAPPROPRIATE

Not only that, but many social media users ordered Katie to “take it off now,” as another advised, “Don’t you dare.”

Another added: “It would be disrespectful to use it.”

Clothing Etiquette for Wedding Guests

If you’re struggling to decide on a dress for wedding season, here are some rules on what not to wear so you don’t get into trouble.

  • Folklore says that wearing red to a wedding means you slept with the groom.
  • Casual attire like jeans and flip-flops should always be avoided.
  • Any color that can be chosen like white or cream – even if it isn’t.
  • Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
  • Wearing white is a big no-no if you’re not the bride.

While one woman explained: “If someone wore that to my wedding I would literally never speak to them again.”

At the same time, a fashion fan warned: “Please don’t be inappropriate at someone’s wedding.”

WINE TIME

Clearly very surprised by the dress, many social media users claimed they would pour red wine over it.

One woman shared: “Red wine immediately.”

A second agreed: “It’s going to make you blush if you show up to my wedding like that.”

While a third wrote: “I’m pouring wine on him.”
