And it’s no surprise that supermarket fashion is now more popular than ever, as fashion fan Rebecca Sudwarts managed to get her hands on a stunning summer skirt and loads of stylish dresses from Sainsbury’s.

Posting on social media, the content creator proudly showed off her latest clothing collection, writing: “Workwear and summerwear from Tu Sainsbury. This turned into such Cool workwear edit! Many of these outfits would be great for The office and the weekend, super versatile!”

The influencer, who is five feet tall and between sizes 14 and 16, kicked off the clip while modeling a khaki linen jumpsuit.

Thrilled by the discovery, she smiled: “I think it’s a really flattering shape, you could totally wear this to work.”

Rebecca then tried on a leopard print dress at the waist and continued: “This isn’t really a look I would normally wear, but I really like that it’s a shirt dress that pulls me in at the waist.

“You can also dress this up and down, I also think it would make a great work dress.”

Next, Rebecca tried on a rust-colored slip and added, “This is a gorgeous look for the office. I must say that it is quite spacious.

“Beautiful color, it’s quite autumnal, so you can go until September, even October.

“Very pretty fabric, the waistcoat is £25 and the skirt is just £20.”

To continue, Rebecca, who is from the UK, modeled a green dress, explaining: “I think this dress would be perfect for the office in the summer.

“How beautiful is this color? A very good kind of sage green.

“It’s a really beautiful fabric, it’s such a flattering dress.”

Is supermarket fashion the new high street?

Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:

Supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, when you go to do your weekly food shopping, you can also choose from a selection of stylish, purse-friendly pieces for the whole family.

Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent rise for the quarter thanks to “strong growth in clothing” and M&S has claimed the title of number one womenswear destination on the high street.

Asda’s clothing line George made £1.5m for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes were sold at full price rather than discounted, and sales of Nutmeg at Morrisons also rose by 2 percent last year.

So what is it about grocery fashion that is becoming so successful?

Not only are the clothes really affordable, they’re also good quality – many of them being part of programs like the Better Cotton Initiative.

They often stick to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year.

Plus, because they buy so much inventory, they can deliver parts quickly and buy cheaper because of volumes.

Despite the campaign’s success so far, Rebecca wasn’t entirely convinced by outfit number five – a floral dress.

She explained: “I’m not loving it, I picked it because I thought the shape would be flattering, but I don’t think it’s doing much for me.

“I also don’t like that the print is off white, with a cream base.”

For look number six, Rebecca paired a stunning skirt with a black vest, as she expressed: “This skirt is crinkled satin, a really pretty color.

“I combined it with this vest, of very good quality.”

Reasons to buy supermarket fashion

When looking for new pieces to add to your seasonal wardrobe or update basics, there’s no need to spend hours wandering around clothing stores or browsing online. Just grab a dress or two along with your fruits and vegetables…

They are convenient – You are likely to visit your supermarket more often than a shopping center or high street.

It’s affordable – From basics to fashion-forward pieces, supermarkets are paving the way for budget-friendly fashion that doesn’t look cheap.

They are more fashionable than you think – With a customer database larger than the average high street store, stores such as ASDA, Sainsbury’s and Tesco are able to serve markets and forecast trends in many more areas than just food supply.

They fit well – Fits and lengths often come with a little more modesty in mind. The fabrics also tend to be highly practical – think plenty of 100% cotton that can be thrown into the washing machine without thinking.

For the final look, we saw Rebecca wear a gorgeous leopard print skirt, which costs just £22, as she smiled:

“This is a fabulous skirt, also super comfortable. It’s elastic.

Such a fabulous purchase!! Everything looks amazing on you

“I would wear this in the evening on vacation, I would also wear it with sneakers, a small t-shirt and a denim jacket.

“You would look very worn out in this skirt.”

REACTION FROM FASHION FANS

The Instagram clip, which was posted under the username @styling with rebeccaIt clearly impressed many as it quickly racked up 32,600 views.

Fashion fans were stunned by the supermarket shopping spree and many made a point of expressing this in the comments.
