FINDING the perfect vest is hard work every summer.

Some gape in the armpits, while others make us feel like sausage meat squeezing out of the casing.

However, some shoppers claim to have found the perfect cost-effective solution to our vest woes.

And it’s lurking in F&F in the children’s clothing department at Tesco.

Simple ribbed vests for 13- to 14-year-olds are flying off the shelves — but not necessarily into teens’ wardrobes.

In fact, it is because women have noticed that this teenage size is the same as a woman’s petite size.

Fashionistas claim that both vests share the exact same ribbed and racing style.

And not only do youth tops “fit much better,” according to some, they are also much cheaper.

While a women’s vest from the F&F range costs £7, a pack of two from the children’s section costs £5.

This costs just £2.50 per top.

These vests are gaining popularity among women who have found that they offer a comfortable and flattering fit.

Fans of the budget-friendly fashion hack include content creator Mia Lorrina, who took to Instagram to alert your followers.

I’m a size 10 and my best friend is a 22 – you need to run to Tesco’s F&F, our new swimwear looks great on everyone

She dubbed the style switch a “no-brainer.”

“I will be squeezing myself into children’s clothes in the future,” Mia wrote.

Worried about looking like a sheep dressed as lamb? Fashionistas say no.

“I’ve been doing this for a long time,” shopper Ciara Clarke wrote below Mia’s video.

Is supermarket fashion the new high street?

DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:

Supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, when you go to do your weekly food shopping, you can also choose from a selection of stylish, purse-friendly pieces for the whole family.

Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent rise for the quarter thanks to “strong growth in clothing” and M&S has claimed the title of number one womenswear destination on the high street.

Asda’s clothing line George made £1.5m for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes were sold at full price rather than discounted, and sales of Nutmeg at Morrisons also rose by 2 percent last year.

So what is it about supermarket fashion that is so successful?

Not only are the clothes really affordable, they’re also good quality – many of them being part of programs like the Better Cotton Initiative.

They often stick to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year.

Plus, because they buy so much inventory, they can deliver parts quickly and buy cheaper because of volumes.

“The fit for children’s t-shirts and vests is identical to the adult size small, I think.”

Another shopper claimed she has “saved hundreds over the years” using this hack.

Vests from the F&F children’s range are versatile, basic pieces that can be easily incorporated into any wardrobe – just like the versions for adults.

Whether you’re wearing a blazer for a sophisticated look or pairing it with a tracksuit for a casual vibe, a good ribbed vest is a wardrobe staple.

For budget-conscious shoppers, this fashion hack is a game changer as it helps you spend more.

By opting for these affordable yet stylish vests, you can free up more of your budget for investment items… or even weekly shopping trips.
