A CRAFTY fashionista has left netizens completely divided over her handmade wedding dress.

With an astronomical 92 million tonnes of clothing ending up in landfill every year, eco-friendly style lover Poppy Lu decided to create the outfit from an old cloth she bought in a charity shop.

The talented woman first tried to impress TikTok users with a DIY dress she made from scratch using a cheap tablecloth – however, it wasn’t a huge success, so she tried again, this time with old curtains.

The gorgeous dark turquoise curtains, which also featured intricate detailing, cost her just $4.99 – or less than £4 – saving Poppy a fortune.

Armed with the necessary essentials, DIY, believed to be from the USA, set out to create the masterpiece.

As Poppy cut and sewed the material, the shopper also shared shocking facts about the fast fashion industry, including the market’s favorite brands.

According to Poppy, who posts under the username @poppylu clothesSpanish giant Zara reportedly creates more than a million pieces of clothing a year, while rival H&M is responsible for more than 400,000 pieces of clothing over the course of 12 months.

Meanwhile, China-based online retailer Shein produces between 35,000 and 100,000 fashion items a year, it highlighted the issue in the video.

”These parts are made quickly and cheaply. Many break after a few uses and washes.

“But most plastic is not made,” she warned.

“Fast fashion companies are not going to change just because they want to.

“The closest we came to pressuring them to change was the 2022 signing of the Reducing Inflation Act, which was the largest investment in clean energy and will reduce carbon pollution by 40% by 2030.”

Poppy welcomed the change – but insisted the high street still had a long way to go.

“This was a big step in the right direction, but we need to keep pushing for more.

”We need our legislators to listen to us in order to act now.”

With all the hard facts laid out, Poppy was also ready to show off and model her jaw-dropping outfit – a stunning layered midi dress with cutout details around the bust and a pretty bow at the front.

“I prefer to use used curtains, to be honest,” said the crafts professional in the caption.

Clothing Etiquette for Wedding Guests

If you’re struggling to decide on a dress for wedding season, here are some rules on what not to wear so you don’t get into trouble.

  • Folklore says that wearing red to a wedding means you slept with the groom.
  • Casual attire like jeans and flip-flops should always be avoided.
  • Any color that can be chosen like white or cream – even if it isn’t.
  • Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
  • Wearing white is a big no-no if you’re not the bride.

But although the young woman looked incredible in her handmade dress, not everyone was obsessed with the wedding guest’s outfit.

One critic, for example, considered that the princess dress was not suitable for nuptials.

”It’s a pretty dress, but I wouldn’t say it’s appropriate for a wedding.”

Another joked: “Imagine showing up at someone’s house wearing a dress in the same pattern as the curtains.”

Someone thought: ”Cute, but with a lot of frills”.

Luckily for Poppy, who regularly shares upcycling content on her page, the overall feedback has been mostly positive, with hundreds of people praising her impressive skills.

”I need to learn how to sew because this is phenomenal!” one fan was amazed.

”You are a very intelligent lady. Absolutely beautiful dress,” another person agreed.

“So talented! I wish I could get along with sewing machines. I’ve tried so many times. I would love to make my own clothes,” added a third.
