‘I’m stunned!’ Wine experts reveal Aldi’s £5 bottles taste better than £50 purchases after blind test

Now, Aldi has released the results of a blind taste test for some of its latest bottles.

Wine lovers unknowingly tasted new bottles of sparkling wine, red, white and rosé in the supermarket.

Hilariously, they all actually believed they were drinking £50 wine instead of £5 booze.

Aldi took part in a real show jumping event to surprise drinkers.

A video recorded at the event shows a flamboyant wine merchant – known as Justin Youraldi – pouring glasses of red, white and rosé for event attendees to sample.

They thought they were tasting exotic grapes from the most exclusive vineyards in the world, costing almost 10 times more.

However, they were really enjoying Aldi wines priced as cheap as £4.99.

Attendees at the Royal International Horse Show in West Sussex spoke eloquently about the wine’s aromas, balance, acidity and earthiness before the big price tag was revealed.

A surprised wine taster can be heard exclaiming after the revelation: “I can’t believe this!

“I am stunned.

“I’m going to Aldi.

“You gained a customer.”

Wine Lady Sam Caporn explained why new connoisseurs were so easily fooled by Aldi wines.

She said: “It’s no surprise that Aldi wines have been mistaken for much more expensive wines.

“The specially selected Toscana Rosso we see sampled in the secret clip has a beautiful youthful color with notes of red cherries, herbs and blueberries with fine but evident tannins on the finish.”

“We also see wine lovers delighted with Aldi’s Chassaux Et Fils Saint Victoire Provence Rosé.

“This new wine for summer 2024 has notes of strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate and pear offset by the acidity of pink grapefruit, making it a great alternative to the £24 Whispering Angel, but at half the cost at £12.49.

“My top pick among the wines that fooled Justin Youraldi’s customers is Pierre Jaurant Côtes De Gascogne.

“Pale and fresh with delicate green aromas of herbs, grass, elderflower and citrus – the palate of this white wine is spicy and pleasantly textured.

“At just £4.99, it’s an absolute steal.”

New research from Aldi has found that people love to trick their friends with a bargain.

A whopping 43% said they served a low-cost wine as a luxury option and received compliments.
