A SAVVY mum has divided opinion after showing how she prepares a single chicken breast to feed her family of four.
Jenn explained that she has perfected the art of making her food go further and demonstrated what that looks like for a chicken dinner at a video on her TikTok page.
She started by finding the “biggest breast” she could and started by washing it clean.
It should be noted that the Public Health Agency warned that washing chicken can spread Campylobacter, the most common cause of food poisoning in the UK.
Jenn then grabbed a sharp knife and began slicing her chicken breast as “paper thin” as she could so she could get as many servings as possible.
“And I keep repeating this process until I cut my chicken breast completely,” she explained.
After doing so, she said she wanted to make it “even thinner.”
Then she grabbed a meat tenderizer and started pounding the chicken until it was as fine as possible.
At this point, she prepared her egg wash – one egg, salt, pepper and milk – and her breadcrumb mixture, which was just Italian-style panko and Italian breadcrumbs.
“So I’m going to open up my chicken breast and make sure it’s fully coated,” she said, as she demonstrated how to coat the chicken in the egg wash, before placing it in the breadcrumbs.
“And then I keep repeating the process,” she said.
As a finishing touch, she always adds “extra breadcrumbs to make sure everything is well coated.”
Holding up a plate full of coated chicken pieces, Jenn said, “This is how much chicken breast I got out of my one breast.
“I feel like it’s a pretty decent amount!”
When it comes to cooking the chicken, Jenn uses canola oil, which she gets “really, really hot” before adding the chicken and frying it on both sides.
She served the chicken with a pasta salad, which she made with pasta, ham and mayonnaise, and some cucumber slices – for herself, her husband and their children.
The comments section was immediately filled with people debating Jenn’s methods – with many insisting the wisdom went too far.
“Like no protein!” one wrote.
“You guys are being very frugal, just overdoing it,” added another.
Ways to spend less at the supermarket
Food inflation means we’re all feeling the pinch, but shopping with these points in mind could save you hundreds of pounds a year:
“I understand the economy is bad, but I honestly don’t think it’s that bad,” commented a third.
“Buy drumsticks, they’re cheaper,” suggested another person.
“I know everyone is still hungry,” said another.
“Wait, who’s feeding?” someone wondered.
However, other people praised Jenn for creating a meal that saved so much money.
“Wow, that’s amazing!” one wrote.
“Thank you for sharing this amazing idea, especially with the high price of food.”
“That looks yummy!” another added.
“Thanks for sharing.
“We’re working on tight budgets here, so this is really helpful.”
“Great way to stretch the meat and everyone gets a little and there’s variety on the plate,” commented a third.
“They are full and beautiful dishes!”
“In this economy, yes!” someone said.
While another praised: “You are literally a super mom!
“I’m going to start doing this for my family of 4.”
