The popular item, which was sold an incredible 200 million times only in the US in 2022, it comes in the exclusive box, containing Burger or Chicken McNuggets, complete with fries, apple slices, choice of drink and a Happy Meal toy.

But what many foodies may not know is that McDonald’s vibrant red box can also be transformed into a dish for a mess-free meal.

The discovery was recently made by mother-of-two Kirsty Fox, who took to TikTok to share her shock.

“Thirty-two years and I just discovered that Happy Meal boxes turn into a dish,” the shocked mom said in the clip.

According to Kirsty, who regularly shares parenting-related content on your platformThe box now comes with a cardboard serrated line around 3/4 of the way up the box.

Just as her mother began to pull on the thread, the top of the Happy Meal box came loose, leaving Kirsty with a medium-sized square box.

After removing the top and bottom, Kirsty filled the DIY plate with chips, before handing them to her son.

“Am I the last person on the planet to notice this?” she asked herself in the caption, while more than 185,000 people liked the clip.

But it seems it wasn’t just Kirsty who was totally shocked by the McDonald’s hack – even some employees admitted they had no idea about the feature.

A former worker said: ”He was a manager at a McDonald’s for 8 years.

Foodie claims to have discovered where McDonald’s gets its mozzarella sticks, and you can get a whole KG for £8

”This is something new, they weren’t always like this.”

“I’ve been working at McDonald’s for 4 years and I didn’t know this until now,” added one employee.

Someone else agreed, writing: “I’m going to say this is definitely new, not an old thing.”

But while some loved the dish trick, others thought it would cause major drama at the fast food restaurant, with children throwing tantrums.

”Until the child starts screaming because you just ripped up his favorite thing at the moment.”

“Am I the only one who uses this as a trash can? A foodie laughed.

How to turn a McDonald’s Happy Meal box into a dish:

1. Pull the cardboard line 3/4 down on the Happy Meal box – this will remove the top of the box.

2. Use the bottom of the box as a plate. Since the edges of the box are still secured, no food will fall out.

3. Give the children the top half of the box to use as a hat.

Making children happy since 1979

The Happy Meal was officially launched worldwide in 1979, after the brand realized it didn’t have much appeal to children.

The idea was “make children happy and parents will bring them in” and the strategy met a strong need among children to play or engage in fun activities.

According to The Times Daily, the meals — which included a burger, fries, cookies and soda — came with one of several small toy options, such as a McDoodler stencil or a McWrist wallet.

McDonald’s first Happy Meal portrayed a circus theme.
