A SAVVY shopper has revealed how she gets FREE cash at Lidl – and feels good doing it in the process.

Hannah explained that she had heard about the supermarket Return Scheme and since she had a big bag of plastic bottles to get rid of, she thought she’d give it a try.

She documented the process in a slide show on her TikTok page when she began: “Come return some plastic bottles to Lidl for cash.”

Hannah was then shown walking to Lidl armed with the large bag of bottles, before heading to the store’s recycling point.

In total, she put 21 bottles into the machine and received a total of £1.05 back in the form of a coupon, but commented: “Considering they would go to waste anyway!”

After receiving the coupon, Hannah went around the store to buy a jar of pasta sauce and a four-pack of toilet paper rolls.

These two items cost £1.89, but as she had the coupon she only had to spend 84p of her own money.

The pilot scheme is running in participating stores across Glasgow, and people can use the machines to return empty PET plastic and aluminum drinks containers.

“We are on a mission to eliminate all unnecessary waste and with over 95% of our own brand packaging now recyclable, reusable or refillable, we have made great progress,” said Richard Bourns, Commercial Director at Lidl GB, said in an announcement.

“We know that Lidl customers share this passion and we hope that using this infrastructure, which might otherwise have gone dormant, will help make recycling their cans and bottles even more convenient for them.

“With our extra incentive and no limit on the number of items that can be recycled, everyone wins.”

The trial scheme is running until August 11 this year.

And, if successful, it is hoped that the Returns Scheme will be introduced into more Lidl stores.

“This needs to be everywhere,” one person commented on Hannah’s TikTok.

“This would help so many people like me!”

“I love it!” another praised.

To which Hannah replied: “What a good initiative!”

“If it’s in my area I’ll be there often,” wrote another person.
