A mother has defended herself after sharing her money-saving trick at McDonald’s to feed her kids.

The woman took Facebook to reveal how she spends just £9.56 on herself and her three children, instead of the “normal £25-£30” – but it hasn’t gone down well with everyone.

Taking to Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, the McDonald’s customer wrote: “Some may think this is petty but I don’t care.

“I’ve just found a way to feed myself and my three children aged 10, 3 and 2 at McDonald’s for £9.56 instead of the usual £25-£30 and I’m upset I didn’t do it sooner haha.

“I received a shared box of nuggets and three fries which worked well for all of us.

“The youngest two got 3 each, me and the oldest got 8 each because we got 2 extra nuggets, which is like winning the lottery in the world of McDonald’s.

“People have probably been doing this for decades, but if this enlightens even one person, I’ll be happy.”

Her post racked up more than 1,500 likes, but some people quickly commented with their negative opinions.

One of them said: “Learn to cook instead of wasting money on crap from McDonalds.”

Another added: “I think it would be better to cook healthier food at home.”

And a third commented: “Wouldn’t work for me, my son has a box of nuggets to share with chips.”

However, many defended her, with one person writing: “Do what makes you and your family happy! Good job.”

I tried the new McDonald’s Happy Meal – adults will love a new menu item as much as kids

In response to the criticism, the mother wrote: “I’m just going to clarify a few things.

“Thank you, strangers, for caring about what my kids eat, but they eat like kings 99% of the time.

“I prepare only fresh, healthy and balanced food for them daily, even after 7/8/9 hour work shifts.

“It was a pleasure because it’s the semester and I had a day off from work, and even if I fed them McDonald’s every day, what does that have to do with you?

What are McDonald’s chicken nuggets made of?

Contrary to popular belief, McDonald’s chicken nuggets are made from 100% chicken breast meat, according to the fast-food giant.

But chicken only makes up 45% of a McNugget – as the rest of the recipe is a combination of batter, seasonings and oil.

They are lightly battered before being topped with a second layer of tempura batter, which gives them the signature crunch we all know and love.

Once partially cooked in the fryer, they are cooled, frozen and packaged to be shipped to McDonald’s restaurants, where they are fully cooked.

The chicken is sourced from a number of local suppliers and farms across the UK.

McDonald’s states: “We are deeply committed to the health and well-being of all animals in our supply chain.

“That’s why we’re proud to only work with approved suppliers who adhere to our high standards, as well as those required by UK and EU legislation.”

“A McDonald’s every now and then won’t hurt my kids.”

She added that her kids don’t care about Happy Meals, so she thinks this works best for her family.

The mum continued: “I’m not going to keep buying 2 Happy Meals to go to waste when I can get something for all of us for a third of the price I would normally spend.

“Toys and drinks are meaningless at happy meals because my children only drink water and are never interested in toys, they already had water in their glasses.”

Many people have pointed out that a good money-saving offer at McDonald’s is their new three items for £3.

And previously, fans shared how using the deal is a clever trick to get four extra Chicken McNuggets for just 1 cent.

The fast food giant is offering cheap eats across nine different menu items, including McFlurry ice cream, McNuggets and burgers.

Maccies fans can choose three of these dishes and pay just £3 for the batch – costing just £1 each.

But bargain hunters will need to be quick, as the deal only lasts three weeks, until June 11th.

The mum replied: “I didn’t know about the 3 for £3 but thank you for everyone telling me about it so I can keep feeding my kids junk food EVERY day like people assume.”
