TESCO has launched an online marketplace where shoppers can purchase thousands of items from other brands at the same time as they shop.

The supermarket giant said the marketplace will make Tesco.com “a one-stop shop for everything customers need” once it reaches full scale.

After the initial launch on June 4, nearly 9,000 products have now been listed in categories including garden, DIY, housewares, toys and pet care.

More products will be added in the coming months as Tesco’s market expands, the supermarket said.

Although products from so-called third parties are listed alongside Tesco’s groceries online and in the app, orders will be fulfilled directly by the supplier.

But Tesco customers will be able to earn Clubcard points on their grocery shopping – not just their groceries.

Tesco stated that the launch of its marketplace aims to make the shopping experience even more convenient for customers, who will have access to various products in one place.

Around 17 sellers are currently on the market, including Tefal, Silentnight, Tommee Tippee and Charles Bentley.

For example, you can buy a six-pack of LAV Bodega Whiskey 240ml glasses for £10 – which retails for the same price on Rinkit, although the products are currently on sale for £5.20.

In the home section you can get a pack of 10 wooden children’s hangers for £12 – which is £2 cheaper than at Rinkit, where it retails for £14.

However, it’s always worth checking multiple websites when you buy something, as Rinkit now has a promotion on this product and is selling it for £7 – a saving of £5 on the Tesco deal.

Another useful product available in the Tesco marketplace is a freestanding linen storage cupboard with five-tier shelves from Teamson, which is discounted from £184.99 to £149.99 until December 2024.

The same discount is currently available on the official Teamson website.

And a Silentnight Restore Cooling Throw is available in the Tesco market for £44.99, just 1p cheaper than the official website which sells it for £45.

Tesco confirms essential Sunday roast has been pulled from shelves after fans sobbed ‘it’s been gone for months’

Peter Filcek, market director at Tesco, said: “This is a really exciting time as we expand our online offering – making it even more convenient for customers to shop at Tesco and even more rewarding with customers able to accumulate Clubcard points. on all purchases.

“We are constantly looking for ways to improve our customers’ shopping experience, and our new Marketplace offers them the same great quality and value they expect from Tesco, across an even wider range of products, from our specially selected partners. .

“We hope to further expand the range of products and brands in the coming months.”

In a chat with The grocerFilcek said the market’s variety and number of vendors “should increase rapidly over the summer” and will increase “as quickly as we feel comfortable.”

He explained: “We want to grow enough to be a destination – so that you have critical mass and credibility in each of these categories.

“But not so big that [shoppers] ends up tripping over irrelevant things and this becomes a problem and gets in the way. [their] path.

“Likewise, we don’t want to chase a number if it means attracting salespeople who can’t deliver on the promises we make to our customers, or who disappoint us in ongoing delivery, or who have problems in the future.”

Filcek added: “So it’s definitely going to grow, but it’s going to grow at a pace that we’re comfortable with, and we’re confident that it’s the right thing for our customers.”

What can I get with the Tesco Clubcard?

TESCO’s Clubcard scheme allows shoppers to earn points while they shop.

These points can then be transformed into discount vouchers for food at the supermarket or discounts at other places, such as restaurants and tours.

Every time you spend £1 in store and online you earn a point when you scan your Clubcard.

Drivers who use a loyalty card earn one point for every two liters spent on fuel.

One point is 1p, so 150 points gets you a £1.50 discount voucher, for example.

You can double their value by exchanging them for discounts with “rewards partners”.

For example, vouchers worth £12 can be exchanged for a £24 three-month subscription to Disney+.

Or you can exchange 50p points for £1 to spend at Hungry Horse pubs.

Where you can spend them changes regularly and you can check the Tesco website to see what’s available now.

Tesco shoppers can also get Clubcard prices when they have their loyalty card.

Discounted items change regularly and without a Clubcard you will pay a higher price.

Clubcard prices are usually labeled on the shelves, along with the non-member price.

But it’s important to note that just because it’s discounted doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the cheapest on the market, and you should compare prices to find the best deal.

You can sign up for a Tesco Clubcard in store or online via the Tesco website.

The marketplace model is nothing new for the supermarket giant, which launched Tesco Direct – a service that offers non-food products on its website – in 2006.

It remained in operation until 2018, when it ceased trading as Tesco could not find a way to make it profitable.

But Filcek told the industry publication that “things have changed” since Tesco Direct, adding that the supermarket’s online business is now “significantly different”.

He also highlighted that Tesco Direct was a separate website, with its own login, run by Tesco – but in comparison, the new marketplace is “fully integrated” into the shopping experience despite being sent by the seller.

This means that, compared to Tesco Direct, the marketplace is “much more organic and easier to discover”, while also being “a much more scalable business” as everything comes from the seller, Filcek added.

After being asked whether Tesco.com would compete with Amazon, Filcek said the marketplace aims to focus on products they think Tesco shoppers are interested in, adding: “Our launch is nowhere near the scale of Amazon.” .

He also said Tesco has “no ambition to copy anyone” but wants to do “something a little unique” for its customers.

How to get a bargain

SUN Savers editor Lana Clements explains how to find a reduced-price item and score a bargain…

Sign up to loyalty schemes with the brands you regularly shop with.

Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.

Sales are when you can get a real steal.

Retailers often have periodic promotions that tie payday to the end of the month or holiday weekends, so keep an eye out and shop when these deals are available.

Sign up for email lists and you’ll also be the first to know about special offers. It may also be worth following retailers on social media.

When shopping online, always search for discount codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk It is myvouchercodes.co.uk There are just two sites that bring together promotions by retailer.

It’s useful to have scanner apps on your phone. Trolley.co.uk The app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when shopping.

Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s in-app scanner to find in-store discounts before staff mark them down.

And always check to see if you can get a refund before paying, which means you’ll get part of your money back or a discount on the item.

Over the weekend we reported that bargain hunters were filling their baskets at Tesco with reduced Persil scan to clean for less than half the price.

Shoppers who snagged the bargains turned to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook group to share details.

A photograph showed bottles of Persil non bio on sale for just £5.18 at Tesco in Seven Sisters.

One user posted: “What a great buy” and another said: “OMG I need to buy some.”

XXL size triple bottles can do 72 washes (1,944ml) and usually cost £11.50.

The same bottle is currently full price online, unless you have a Tesco Clubcard, in which case you can collect it for £5.75.

You should always shop around to find the best deals and sites like trolley.co.uk can help when shopping online.

Using a price comparison tool before heading to the store can also help you find the best deals and discounts.
