TIGHTWAD revelers hate bringing their own burgers and drinks to barbecues – believing the hosts should provide everything.
More than a third of us expect to be treated to beer, wine and bangers without spending out of pocket, a survey has revealed.
But vegans and vegetarians are more likely to bring their own provisions in a bid to avoid going hungry – with 82 per cent opting for plant-based versions.
Around 72 per cent of non-meat eaters reported feeling embarrassed about being served at a garden steakhouse.
Although the summer sun has only just arrived, 76% of adults have already braved this year’s gloomy weather to attend barbecues.
Three-fifths of the 500 people surveyed by retailer Next said Saturday afternoon was the best Barbie time.
The store’s study said: “A barbecue is the epitome of British culture.
Typically, the British don’t get discouraged by bad weather when it comes to a barbecue.
“But as the British summer is anything but reliable, having contingency plans for cold temperatures or rain is a good idea.”
