The beauty of Wetherspoons is that you usually know exactly what to expect when you walk through the door.
However, some people were perplexed that their food appeared with an unexpected surprise.
One foodie shared his amazement at his food being delivered to his partner on a patterned red plate rather than Wetherspoons’ usual blue plate.
The woman sent a photo of the unexpected dishes to Reddit and captioned it: “My boyfriend got a red plate at Wetherspoons.”
They added: “The spoon plates are always blue, I’ve never seen a red one before.”
And she’s not the only person who has received one over the years, with others claiming it has happened to them too.
People were quick to wonder amazed, with one writing: “ YOU GOT THE RED PLATE! .”
A second commented: “If you pick up the red plate in spoons, take it to the bar afterwards and get a free drink.”
And a former Spoons employee said he had never seen one while working at the network.
But what does it mean?
One person suggested: “Are you the millionth customer?”
And one of them wrote: “I think you accidentally entered an alternate dimension.”
Fortunately, a Wetherspoons spokesperson cleared up the mystery for the Daily Star.
They said: “Wetherspoon tested a red plate on a small number of pubs for use in children’s meals, to ensure that all children’s meals were served on a cold plate.
“The company has evolved since then and has just launched a melamine plate for the entire children’s menu that is in line with the design of the children’s menu.
”But there will be stock of the old red plate in circulation, until they break.
”There are no plans to change the standard blue pattern plate anytime soon.”
