BOTTLES of wine can be bulky, cumbersome and heavy to fit into a suitcase if you’re traveling for the weekend.
But Aldi appears to have solved this problem once and for all – with the launch of a FLAT wine bottle, made from plastic.

Wendy was one of the first to get her hands on the wine and opted for a Shiraz.
She then took it to TikTok to share a look at the ingenious design – produced by Chapter & Verse for Aldi – as she said: “What’s going on, Aldi?
“Wine bottles, plastic like that for you to keep in your suitcase!
“So if any of you are going on stag do’s, girls’ nights out, stag do’s, holidays and want to pack some booze…
“Now you have these bottles that are plastic and lie flat!
“How clever is that? This is a Shiraz.”
Wendy added that she couldn’t find the Chardonnay and thinks it might be out of stock, but bought the red as soon as she saw it.
“I mean, this is pure genius!” she concluded.
“Well done, Aldi!”
“Found this at @Aldi UK, great idea,” Wendy captioned her video.
Other shoppers were quick to comment on the video, with many praising Chapter and Verse for their ingenious design.
“It’ll fit in your mailbox. Send a bottle to a friend!” one wrote.
“I think it fits in the fridge without rolling off the shelf,” added another.
“It saves you the embarrassment when garbage collectors collect your recycling after a party,” commented a third.
“And you can fit more in your closets!” someone gushed.
“Selling this on 02 last week for around £40!” another wrote.
To which Wendy replied: “£5.95 at Aldi!”
“It also tastes great!” someone praised.
“Someone suggested you could put them on your bookshelf,” another laughed.
When is the best time to shop at Aldi?
WHEN it comes to shopping at Aldi, the best time to do so depends on what you want to buy.
For reduced items – when stores open
Items with red stickers are rare across Aldi’s 830 UK stores, but the supermarket says none of its food goes to waste, so there are some to be found – if you’re quick.
A spokesperson for the supermarket said: “All items are reduced to 50 per cent of the recommended retail price before stores open at their best time or best before date.”
This means you’ll have a better chance of finding reduced-price foods if you go to stores as soon as they open.
Opening hours vary depending on the store, but most open from 7am or 8am. You can find the hours of your nearest store using the supermarket online store finder tool.
For special purchases – Thursdays and Sundays
Special Buys are Aldi’s weekly collection of items that it doesn’t normally sell, which can range from pizza ovens to power tools.
New stock arrives in stores every Thursday and Sunday, so naturally these are the best days to visit for the best one-off specials.
For an even better chance of bagging the best items, head to your local store during opening hours.
However, you don’t need to go to stores to buy a Specialbuy.
They are also on sale online, usually at midnight on Thursday and Sunday, and you can order them up to a week in advance.
As long as you spend at least £25, items will be delivered free of charge.
Remember: once they’re gone, they’re gone, so if there’s something you really want, visit asap
“This is so good and so much safer,” wrote another person.
“Once drunk, you can use it to make flowers or fill it with some festive sand haha.
“So make it reusable. Or just save it for refilling next time!”
The wine comes in the UK’s first supermarket own-brand flat recycled PET bottle and was launched to coincide with Global Recycling Day on 18 March.
“We know that shoppers are looking for greener, more sustainable products and our aim is to continue to deliver this, whilst offering great value and improved functionality,” said Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK.
“We are pleased to take the next step in expanding our recyclable and environmentally friendly line.”
Alongside the new plastic bottles, Aldi is reducing the average bottle weight of all its still wine products by 8% – a process that will be completed by 2025.
