Posted to TikTok by moms Janelle and Kate, their recipe actually doesn’t contain any potatoes.

Well, that’s unless there’s sour cream and onion crisps.

In the video, which has since gone viral and currently has over 2.7 million views, the food lovers start by adding half a large bag of chips to a plate.

NextThere’s a pinch of cream, a can of mushroom soup, minced garlic and a chopped onion.

A whole stick of butter was placed on top and plenty of milk before everything was mixed together.

The gourmets then added more milk and even more chips until the mixture began to fall apart.

After all this, a thick layer of grated mozzarella cheese was spread on top and the dish was baked until gooey and gooey.

Everything received a final mix and that’s it – the so-called mashed potatoes were ready to eat.

Janelle and Kate even claimed the recipe was “the best mashed potato hack” in the clip’s caption.

Unsurprisingly, however, many people didn’t agree with her unusual recipe and she was nominated by other foodies in the comments section.

One said: “I feel bad just seeing this, what’s wrong with using real potatoes please.”

“I love it when my mashed potatoes turn a suspicious shade of gray,” joked a second.

“My blood pressure is skyrocketing watching this,” said a third.

“This is exactly what I imagine American cuisine to be like,” commented another.

Meanwhile, another TikTok user thought the food looked so disgusting it “should be illegal.”

However, one brave foodie said they would be intrigued to at least give it a try: “I would honestly try it,” they wrote.

And someone else said: “It doesn’t seem that bad, it would probably be a little strange because of the crises, but it’s not that bad.”
