WHEN you drink from a plastic bottle, you may have noticed that some caps remain attached to help with recycling.

But it turns out you might be using the lid wrong – according to a Coke Glue fan.

Instead of removing the lid, they opened it and pulled it forward.

The advantage of this method is that it doesn’t stick to your lips while you sip the drink.

TikTok user @davebold1 shared: “So this is how these stupid lids are supposed to be used.”

He joked about the year 2024: “There I was thinking about flying cars and stuff. There are no lids on juice bottles that won’t come off.

Her video has racked up more than 50,000 likes and people have praised her way of using lids.

One wrote: “Oh my God. I have it pulling back and it either gets dripping in my face when I have a drink or gets in the way while I have a drink.

Another added: “And here I am scraping my nose with every sip.”

We previously shared how people started to notice Coca Cola releasing new caps for its bottles across Britain in 2022.

The caps are attached to 1.5L and 500ml bottles and do not come off when opening the drink.

The change can also be seen in the Fanta, Sprite and Dr Pepper bottles.

Coca-Cola confirms soda has been discontinued, tells customers ‘I’m sorry for your disappointment’

The move comes as Coca Cola tries to ensure that all parts of its recyclable bottles end up in the recycling bin.

The goal is to make it easier for people to discard their drinks when they’re done, but Coca-Cola drinkers on X, formerly known as Twitter, weren’t convinced at the time.

One wrote: “I’m not going to lie. This new attached lid design is annoying.”

A second complained that the lid “gets in the way when you drink” and another called it “the worst idea ever”.

“I still need to work on keeping it out of the way while serving/drinking and it doesn’t mean I recycle anymore like I always have,” added another.

When did bottle caps change and why?

IN 2022, the Coca-Cola brand announced its transition to attached lids in an attempt to help with recycling by keeping all packaging components together

This change also reduces the likelihood of small caps becoming junk.

In June 2019, it was decided that disposable bottles under three liters with plastic caps and caps would only be permitted if the caps and caps remained attached during use and storage.

This regulation came into force on July 3, 2024.

Although the UK is no longer part of the EU, many brands have implemented the new bottles in the UK market as well.

When announcing the change last year, a Coca-Cola spokesperson said: “Caps attached to bottles make it easier to keep all parts of our packaging together, so it’s easier to collect and recycle all parts of a bottle. of drink when you finish using it. .

“This new design ensures that when Coca-Cola customers recycle our bottles, no cap is left behind, helping to increase collection and recycling, and reduce waste.”

Some people didn’t even realize it was a new design and were already taking the covers off anyway.

“I really thought I had recently purchased some defective molded caps on the 2 liter bottles,” said one person.

And another said: “I’m cutting them off. Surely you re-screw it when you’re done, right?”

But others hailed the move as worthwhile “for the planet”.

“I get it, but they are really annoying LOL But I will make the sacrifice for the planet,” said one woman.

Coca Cola said the change was scheduled to be completed on all plastic bottles by early 2024.

Jon Woods, general manager of Coca‑Cola Great Britain, said: “This is a small change that we hope will have a big impact, ensuring that when consumers recycle our bottles, no cap is left behind.”
