WITH the cost of everyday essentials rising ever higher, most of us are looking to save money at the supermarket right now.
One shopper, however, has divided the internet after emptying the shelves of reduced pieces at his local luxury supermarket.
Although we all love a bargain, especially stumbling across a yellow sticker item whilst doing our weekly food shopping.
Instead of finding odd bits, a shopper found fifteen discounted ready meals at Waitrose and decided to clear out the shelf.
Among the reduced selection were chicken breasts with bacon and cheese, meatballs, fish cakes, shrimp spaghetti and even some schnitzels.
That wasn’t all they took, with the thrifty shopper also adding a pre-made chicken sandwich, milk, oranges and apples to their purchase.
Even more surprising, they paid less than £2 for most items – despite being in Waitrose.
Thrilled with their store, they later shared photos in the Yellow Sticker Shopping Tips, Tricks and Hauls Facebook group and joked that they were this week’s ‘winners’.
In the caption, they wrote: “5pm… the unhealthy winner.”
GREEN WITH ENVY
Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t long before other members of the group started complaining about the huge result.
One of them complained: “Wow…I wouldn’t have space. If I did, I would be in there…”
Another groaned: “Usually I’m the one who might get lucky and see one item out of half a dozen left that I might like, but then someone will be standing there with a full shopping cart…”
They added: “Yes, there will always be some greedy people.”
Meanwhile, others couldn’t understand why they didn’t get similar discounts at their local Waitrose.
“I never take the deals – what are the times they make reductions?” a third revealed, with a fourth saying: “Our Waitrose only reduces things by about 50 cents.”
SUPERMARKET SCAN
This did not prevent the huge success from going viral in the group, with the anonymous post received more than 180 likes in less than 24 hours.
In fact, most comments congratulated the savvy shopper on the amount of discounts she found at the chic supermarket.
“Yay!!! Great job!!! Put that in the freezer!! excitedly wrote another Facebook user, to which a sixth said: “Naughty but CoolYou can’t be good all the time…well done.”
Some even defended the shopper, arguing that people shouldn’t be judged for bagging so many bargains at the supermarket.
“Oooh, look at the green-eyed jealousy crowd haha… If you don’t have anything nice to say, roll over to people,” one member pointedly wrote, adding, “No one knows other people’s personal circumstances.”
