From triumphant victories to record-setting times, Olympians have performed some breathtaking stunts without a hair out of place.

From their hair to their makeup and even their well-hydrated skin, these Olympians know how to present themselves.

But one question that is on many people’s lips is how gymnasts keep their bikini line so free and smooth.

Most of us who shave know that the fresh silky feeling will only last a day or two because it gets prickly.

And sometimes this can leave you in a rut, as the more you shave, the more irritation you may experience.

A former Team Canada gymnast has revealed the tricks she used to make sure she was ready for competition.

The woman, who goes by the name mi-elskincare on TikTok, gave an insight into the beauty tricks gymnasts use as well as how to avoid razor bumps or ingrown hairs.

She revealed that, because she couldn’t wear shorts, the gymnast shaved every other day.

The gymnast revealed that she has a step-by-step guide that must be followed, as you will “probably” get razor bumps if you skip a step.

She first starts by using a honey-infused sugar scrub and applies it in gentle circular motions over her bikini line.

Exfoliation is important because it cleans the pores and eliminates any dead skin that could clog them and cause irritation.

In terms of razors, the former Canadian gymnast will use a men’s razor with four to five blades, as it is the sharpest and provides the closest shave.

She also adds that because it is designed for shaving the face, it works “really well” for sensitive skin.

The TikToker advised not to keep the razor in the shower as this will “dull the blades faster” and that beauty fans should change their blades every six shaves.

Whether they're competing for gold or performing impressive gymnastics maneuvers, Olympic athletes always look their best.

Instead of using shaving cream, she also recommends LA Roche Posay Lipid Replenishing Anti-Itch Soothing Body Cleansing Cream, £16, from LOOKFANTASTIC.

When shaving, she will use short strokes to avoid irritation and pull the skin upward while shaving in a downward motion.

Then, when it comes to the sides, she pulls the skin to the side and shaves “the other side”.

But for a really close shave for someone who will be wearing a high-cut bikini, she says, “I will literally squat like a frog, pull your skin and shave, make very short strokes and be careful because it is a very sensitive area.”

Beauty secrets of current Olympic athletes

Jordan Chiles
The American gymnast has a 26-step makeup routine that includes 15 different products.

To ensure her makeup lasts through every performance, she uses foundation, concealer, primers, eyeshadows, lip oils and liners, blush, contour, and brows included

Jordan, who has a few hours to prepare before competing, will also pay extra attention to her eye area, using eyeshadow primer and setting powder, both from Fenty Beauty.

The gymnast then adds these products to the inner corners of the eyes for a brightening effect that looks good in the spotlight during matches.

Simon Biles
Preparation is key for Simone, who starts using Milk Makeup’s Hydro Grip Primer, £18 for 10ml and £35 for 45ml.

She then applies concealer, foundation, liquid eyeliner and mascara, before using two different setting sprays.

The gold medalist uses ONE/SIZE On ‘Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray, £30, first, and then Ben Nye Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer, which costs £25.20 on Amazon.

Simone was also caught wiping off her sweat with powder.

Lina Nielsen
She’s a 400m sprinter for Great Britain, which means she’ll know a thing or two about always being race-ready.

To help prevent breakouts caused by dirt and sweat, Lina will use a hypochlorous acid spray.

She also removed the products she would normally use and kept her skincare routine super simple.

On race day, Lina will moisturize more than usual to keep her skin protected.

She will always use a primer before wearing makeup to ensure everything stays in place.

How do they do their hair?

Expert trichologists at Philip Kingsley share their top tips on how to look after your hair like an Olympic champion

  • Hair Mask with Cap: Wearing the cap means your hair is protected but also hydrated, so you get the benefits of a leave-in treatment at the same time! The uniquely creamy, conditioning formula – originally formulated for US Olympic synchronized swimming team — treats and protects hair from dryness and the harmful effects of the sun, sea, chlorine and UV, helping to keep locks nourished and hydrated.
  • Hair care during exercise:
  • Pre-shampoo conditioning masks are great to use while exercising, so why not put it in your hair before tying it into a tight ponytail – like the one we saw Keeley rock last night! (Elasticizer)
  • Detangle your hair afterwards, as it can become tangled during the session, and wash with shampoo and conditioner suitable for your hair texture.
  • If your scalp is itchy after a workout session, use a soothing antimicrobial shampoo, like Flaky/Itchy Scalp Shampoo.
  • Training for work
    • Philip Kingsley’s Dry Shampoo is available for the days when you go straight from training to the office, giving your hair back days of life and soaking up the Greece.

Aftercare is the “most important part of your shaving routine” as it can prevent razor bumps and ingrown hairs.

After drying her skin, I will use glycolic acid, which is a natural exfoliant and ‘tummy drop’ cream, and apply it all over her legs and bikini line.
