Swollen under-eyes can be rejuvenated using a tool that is most effective when kept in the fridge, a doctor has revealed.

Anatalia Moore shared three powerful ingredients among her tips for keeping the “delicate” skin around the eyes smooth.

Dr. is a skin specialist with an aesthetic clinic in Manchester, England, and over 11 years of clinical experience.

Speaking to The US Sun, she revealed that the under eye area is one of the most common areas of dissatisfaction.

She said the area can be tricky to treat and using the wrong methods can worsen the appearance of under-eye bags.

“This is especially true for basic eye care products, both tear duct fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments used for crow’s feet,” she said.

Dr. Moore shared advice for safely targeting under-eye bags.

HOME REMEDIES

She said active ingredients like retinoids, peptides and vitamin C can be beneficial in skin care routines.

They help strengthen and repair the skin’s structure, which “is essential for reducing sagging” and help reduce under-eye concerns.

She said the formation of eye bags is influenced by how the face changes with age.

“The skin becomes looser and becomes saggy and wrinkled easily,” she said.

“The layers of fat under the skin that fill the lower part of the eyes decrease and what remains of them becomes more flexible.

I’m 38 and I don’t have a single wrinkle around my eyes – all thanks to my layering skincare trick… and no, I’ve never had Botox

“The bones that provide support around the eye shrink.

“The efficiency of lymphatic drainage weakens, causing fluid accumulation. All of this means that more relaxed skin and tissues can hang more.

“Either sagging inward, causing cavities, or bulging outward, causing pockets that are prone to the accumulation of excess fluid.”

She said two other staples should be included in at-home beauty treatments for a smoother under-eye area.

“The caffeine in eye creams is very helpful in reducing puffiness and regular use of gua sha is a great option to aid lymphatic drainage,” she said.

“Try keeping it in the fridge for the extra benefits of a low temperature that will further reduce swelling.”

PRO TREATMENTS

Moore said regenerative treatments can be used alongside regular skin care to “boost” under-eye healing.

“Polynucleotides are the right choice for this delicate area as they are great for strengthening and hydrating the skin and help with subtle volume loss without the risk of swelling,” she said.

“Microneedling is also an option for capturing lines around the eyes and any bags that may extend to the tops of the cheeks.

“And energy-based treatments, like lasers and radiofrequency, can also help strengthen this area.”

She said the hollowness under her eyes will also require professional cosmetic treatment.

“If you notice flattening in the cheeks or any hollowness or depression under the eyes, it shows that support and loss of volume are factors that are causing your under-eye concerns,” she said.

“Here, dermal fillers expertly placed in the cheeks and tear troughs themselves can quickly soothe concerns.

“But always be careful here, if you have a tendency to accumulate fluid or have natural weakness here, this option is not for you.”

Dr. Anatália Moore is a general practitioner and skin specialist with over 11 years of clinical experience.

She told The US Sun that her goal is to equip patients with the knowledge they need to take control of their skin’s journey.

She said the basics of a beauty routine are the same for all ages – it should include an effective cleanser, moisturizer and SPF.

“Moisturizers are my go-to, even when it comes to products that contain active ingredients,” she said.

“Finding a well-balanced moisturizer that provides the right type of hydration, replaces natural oils, and seals them literally stabilizes the skin.

“This alone can quickly soften the appearance of fine lines and texture, as these are often worsened by dehydration.

“It also allows the skin to function as it should.

“It can then heal more quickly, which, among many things, can lead to fewer lines and wrinkles, fewer flare-ups of dermatitis and rosacea, and milder, shorter-lasting breakouts.”

SIMPLE SOLUTIONS

Dr. Moore said eye bags can develop early due to genetic predispositions in families for weakness in the structures under the eyes.

She revealed that this can be made worse by allergies, underlying health issues, lifestyle and diet.

“If you have hay fever and allergies or experience itchy, irritated or red eyes, I would always recommend using antihistamine or anti-allergy eye drops,” she said.

“This will resolve any swelling caused by inflammation.”

She revealed that diets high in sugar, ultra-processed foods and salt can slow skin healing.

She said increased inflammation accelerates signs of aging and leads to fluid retention.

“Trying to avoid too much of them and staying hydrated can minimize the risk of fluid buildup, which makes eye bags worse,” she said.
