A BEAUTY lover has shared how she revived her fried hair within a year thanks to a special “dusting” technique.

Finding your locks covered in split ends can be annoying and affect your confidence, especially if you’re desperately trying to become a real-life Rapunzel.

There are many reasons why you could be causing your hair to break, such as weakening your locks with bleach and other harsh treatments or even simply using the wrong type of brush, a trichologist previously revealed.

Unfortunately, split ends are impossible to fix, and when left alone, they will get worse and worse, eventually leading to breakage and leaving you with shorter, more even strands of hair.

But how do you get rid of them without sacrificing length?

Well, one beauty lover recently revealed a lesser-known technique she swears by — something called “dusting.”

Not a haircut or even a minor trim, hair powder is a method that supposedly removes split ends – strand by strand, Cosmopolitan reported.

According to Clodagh Egan, who fixed her fried hair in less than a year, “cutting the powder is, in itself, the most important thing you can do to deal with split ends.”

The high street may be packed with a variety of products, all promising different things – but no hair care “on the planet will remove split ends”.

The only thing that works, she stated in the video, is sticking to “hair cleaning” and not the hairdresser, as “99 percent of the time you will ask them to give you a cut.”

This means that if you go to the hair salon “every six weeks like you’re supposed to,” “the hair they cut will be longer than what you’ve grown in the last six weeks,” she explained in the video.

Her locks, Clodagh warned, wouldn’t “grow any longer” – or, in the beauty lover’s case, “her hair was actually getting shorter.”

10p Is the cure for hair loss worth it?

According to stunner, who regularly shares content on her platform, @clodagheganxoxIt’s best to wait until you need to wash your locks if you want to try to remove the dust.

”When you put products in your hair, when you wash it, sometimes they hide the split ends and make it look like you don’t have any.”

Once you’re armed with a pair of hairdressing scissors, slide the sections through your hand ”and every time you see a little split end, cut it off,” she demonstrated in the clip.

”This way, you get rid of any split ends – while maintaining as much length as possible.”

To complete the ultimate hair makeover that won’t cost you anything, simply go over your entire head and remove as many split ends as you can see.

Clodagh’s brief tutorial clearly impressed many, as the video has racked up around 150,000 views and dozens of comments.

One social media user also praised the technique, writing: “Honestly this is my favorite pastime recently, it’s strangely satisfying when you find a broken hair.”

Another added: “I do this between 5/6 month cuts.”

“A hairdresser once taught me how to do this, but twist it into sections and the split ends stick out,” wrote another person.

“My God, whoever has the time or patience to do this, it would take forever”, considered a fourth.

What do the experts say?

Speaking exclusively to Fabulous, A-list stylist and thought leader in Jerome Russell BloiraJason Collier said: “Hair cleansing is a trend that has gained popularity on social media due to its promise of maintaining hair length while eliminating pesky split ends.

”The technique involves trimming only the ends of damaged hair strands, without affecting the total length.

”It can remove split ends effectively by focusing on removing the ends of individual hair strands. This can prevent new cracks, which often travel up the hair shaft if left untreated.

“One of the main attractions of hair cleaning is that it allows individuals to maintain their preferred hair length.

”By trimming just the damaged ends, most of the hair remains intact, making it an attractive option for those growing out their hair.”

According to the London-based professional, “regularly cleansing your hair can help prevent split ends from worsening, which can delay the need for more significant cuts.”

Hair cleaning – step by step

Check out Jason’s guide on how to dust your locks.

Start with clean, dry, straight hair. If your hair is naturally curly or wavy, consider straightening it slightly to make it easier to identify split ends.

Avoid using heavy products that can weigh down your hair, as this can make split ends difficult to see. Work in small sections, dividing your hair into manageable sections to allow for better control.

Use the twisting method to identify split ends by twisting your hair tightly from root to tip. Damaged split ends will come out of the twist, making them easy to see.

Use sharp, professional-grade scissors to trim very carefully; Dull scissors can cause more damage by fraying the ends instead of providing a clean cut.

When moving from one section to another, keep the amount of cuts consistent to avoid uneven results. Take your time and don’t rush the process. The key is precision, the right tools and patience.

By following these steps, you can dust your hair and extend the time between salon visits while keeping split ends at bay.

However, if you are unsure about your technique or hesitate, it is best to leave the scissors in the drawer.

The guru continued: “If not done carefully, cleansing your hair can miss some split ends, especially those located at the top of the hair shaft, which may require a more comprehensive cut to fully resolve.

”Over time, if split ends are not fully eliminated, they can weaken the overall structure of the hair, potentially leading to more significant breakage and the need for a more substantial cut in the future.

”It is essential to complement this technique with adequate hair care, such as the use of thermal protectors such as Jerome Russell thermal protection for straight hair which will protect your straight hair from daily heat damage up to 230°C, leaving it elegant and shiny, avoiding excessive styling and nourishing your hair with quality products.”

The success of hair cleaning depends largely on the skill of the person carrying it out.

If done incorrectly, it may not be effective or, worse, may cause uneven hair, he warned.
