DEFYING the signs of aging can be achieved with a simple four-step skincare routine, according to an expert.

Khorana is a GP and dermatology specialist at the UK-based company Hero Cosmetics.

Speaking to The US Sun, she shared a must-have anti-aging routine.

AMAZING INGREDIENTS

Khorana said three skincare ingredients should be used regularly along with sunscreen for a youthful appearance.

Retinoids are at the top of her list as they help stimulate collagen production, increase skin cell turnover, and help reduce pores and fine lines.

The next most important ingredient works wonders on the complexion.

“Vitamin C is a brilliant antioxidant, which fights free radical damage, brightens skin, fades hyperpigmentation and stimulates collagen,” she said.

“It inhibits the production of melanin by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase, which interferes with abnormal pigmentation.”

Peptides are another key ingredient for improving skin texture, tone, elasticity and firmness.

Khorana said peptides are chains of amino acids that are the building blocks of proteins like collagen, elastin and keratin.

She revealed that the powerful ingredients should not be used by younger people.

“There is a lot of inappropriate use of retinoids right now among teens and pre-teens,” she said.

SIMPLE STEPS

Khorana said collagen starts to decline after age 20.

Anti-aging ingredients like the ones mentioned should be used from the age of 20.

Beauty products should “always” be applied from the thinnest to the thickest consistency.

“To get the most benefit from a regular skin care regimen, you just need to follow a few simple steps: cleanse, treat, hydrate and protect,” she said.

She recommended cleansing in the morning to start your day fresh, as well as at night.

Double cleansing is not vital unless your skin is oily or you are wearing heavy makeup.

She warned that washing too much can cause “dryness, sensitivity and irritation.”

Cleansing should be followed by treatments such as vitamin C serum in the morning and retinoids at night.

“During the day, look for antioxidants like vitamin C, which fights free radical damage,” said Dr.

“This should be done before you moisturize and use SPF.

SPF is a non-negotiable part of your morning skincare routine, and make sure your sunscreen is broad spectrum.

“At night, I recommend using a retinoid.

“It’s a skin superhero and can help rebuild collagen, fade hyperpigmentation, texture irregularities and control oil.”

Products known for their moisturizing properties are the third step in an anti-aging routine.

“Ingredients to look out for are ceramides, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and squalane,” she said.

“Even if you have oily or combination skin, it’s still important to moisturize.

“You can customize the texture and thickness to suit you.”

The fourth step only needs to be followed in the morning.

“SPF is a non-negotiable part of your morning skincare routine, and make sure your sunscreen is broad spectrum,” she said.
