Chez Pierre Perfume Expert shared ways to make your favorite perfume last longer

Petar Peric from dupe perfume company Chez Pierre said many may not know the best practices for applying fragrances to help them last longer.

Even the most expensive perfumes often don’t last past lunchtime, despite how much you spray in the morning.

If you want to make your fragrances last longer, try some of her helpful tips.

PRIVILEGED LOCATION

There are certain target spots you should spray for optimal longevity.

Peric said that if you spray your body randomly or create a cloud of perfume, you could be using too much of your fragrance and not getting the most value from it.

“To make the perfume last longer, apply it directly to your wrists, neck and inner elbow,” he said.

“These are known as pulse points and are parts of the body that move a lot every day. This movement creates heat, which intensifies the aroma of your perfume.”

He also shared how to get “the perfect smell.”

First, spray each wrist and elbow once and spray the neck once, for a total of five sprays.

“You can adjust this number if you have a stronger scent, but you should never do less than two,” Peric said.

MOISTURE METHOD

‘This literally cost 2 euros, cries beauty fan as she encourages shoppers to ‘run to Aldi’ for great perfumes

“One of the best times to apply perfume is right after getting out of the shower,” said Peric.

But you can take it a step further by applying a moisturizing lotion.

“Dry skin doesn’t retain perfume molecules as well as hydrated skin, so towel dry your skin and apply moisturizer to damp skin.

Apply your fragrance as the last step, and he said it will last a little longer than usual.

TO RUB OR NOT TO RUB

Peric added that the way you apply the fragrance can also affect how long it lasts on the skin.

“Do you rub your perfume when it’s on your wrists? If so, this is something you should avoid,” he said.

The expert added that rubbing your wrists can heat up the perfume and cause the top notes to evaporate quickly.

According to the expert, the top notes are the initial aromas that you smell when applying the perfume for the first time, and they are the most volatile notes that usually last for 15 minutes.

“Where you can spray your perfumes and if you can’t, just apply them to your skin,” he advised.

SERIOUS STRENGTH

“Perfumes have different layers of aroma and are categorized into top, middle and base notes,” continued Perid.

A perfume made primarily with top notes won’t last more than two hours, while a perfume with more prominent base notes can last an entire day.

“If you want your fragrance to last longer, choose perfumes that contain amber, musk, vanilla, sandalwood, cedar and patchouli”, he recommended.

TOP CHOICE

Perid said that how long your perfume “lasts” has to do with the type of perfume you buy.

He explained that fragrances come in different concentrations, so the higher the concentration, the more scented oil and less alcohol.

Generally, if there is a concentration of scented oil, it will stay longer.

For example, he said that Eau de Toilette fragrances typically have around a 5-15% concentration of scented oils, while Eau de Parfum can be between 15-20% and Parfum 20-40%.

“Higher concentrations of perfume, however, can be expensive, so if you don’t want to spend a lot on your fragrance you can choose a fragrance that has more prominent base notes,” he recommended.
