An effective skin care routine doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg.
A doctor has revealed the anti-aging ingredient that may work better than retinol.
Dr. Michael Aziz spoke exclusively to The US Sun about his skincare options.
Speaking about anti-aging efforts, he detailed some of the most effective ingredients.
He described some of the classic products, vitamins A and C and retinol, as “excellent for nourishing the skin and maintaining a glowing complexion.”
However, there was a lesser-known ingredient that he said could be more effective.
“Studies indicate that a peptide called GHK-Cu can offer superior results compared to retinol and vitamin C,” he explained.
The health expert also warned against excessive exposure of the skin to ultraviolet rays.
“Limiting sun exposure is crucial to keeping your skin youthful,” said the doctor.
“UV rays can significantly age the skin, causing wrinkles, sunspots and an increased risk of skin cancer.”

He highlighted that, “although sunlight is necessary for the synthesis of vitamin D, excessive sun exposure damages DNA.”
The skin care professional recommended opting for chemical sunscreens over mineral ones as they offer better protection.
“Although Bemotrizinol is effective and is not absorbed through the skin, it is not FDA approved in the US and must be purchased online,” he explained.
Aziz also looked at some of the popular beauty trends in the skincare industry.
“Many skincare products are ineffective or expensive because their molecules are too large to be absorbed by the skin,” he explained.
He added that products containing alcohol often dry out the skin and contain parabens that can pose health risks if absorbed.
What is GHK-Cu?
According to experts, GHK-Cu can help with the following:
- Tighten loose skin and reverse thinning aging skin
- Repair proteins in the skin’s protective barrier
- Improve skin firmness, elasticity and clarity
- Reduce fine lines, wrinkle depth and improve the structure of aging skin
- Smooth and rough skin
- Reduces photodamage, blotchy hyperpigmentation, skin blemishes and lesions
- Improve the overall appearance of the skin
- Stimulate wound healing
- Protect skin cells from UV radiation
- Reduce inflammation and free radical damage
- Increase hair growth and thickness, increase hair follicle size

“It’s best to use natural ingredients like cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil and vitamins A and C,” he said.
Aziz also recommended looking into red light therapy if you want to “promote younger-looking skin.”
The emerging treatment is available in several forms, including “affordable face masks” that, when used regularly, “can stimulate collagen production.”
He also advised anyone wanting to combat the signs of aging to incorporate natural fats like olive oil, avocado and butter into their diet.
“[They] can improve skin’s radiance, thanks to the fat-soluble vitamins they contain, such as vitamin A, which is vital for healthy skin,” he explained.
