A BEAUTY guru has revealed a little-known trick for long, defined lashes when using cheap mascara.
They revealed that the trick is also useful for preventing eye infections when repeatedly applying the same product.
According to NordströmMascara can be used to lengthen, add volume and curl eyelashes.
Experts recommend applying makeup from the base of your lashes and swishing it back and forth as you glide upwards.
Lashes can be curled and an eyelash primer can be applied before mascara for added curl and durability.
Beauty enthusiasts took to Reddit’s AskWomen forum to share their mascara hacks.
“Most mascara formulas are the same, the brush makes the difference,” wrote one Redditor.
“When you find a brush you like, wash it and use it with a cheaper mascara.”
Another response to the post agreed that mascara wands need to be disinfected regularly because they “contain bacteria.”
Posting under the handle u/VersátilFaeriethey’ve revealed how to clean them thoroughly if you’d rather not buy a replacement to keep your eyes protected.

“I first wash it gently in the morning, which helps remove the oil, and then lay it out on a towel to dry,” they wrote.
“Once dry, I leave it to soak in isopropyl alcohol for 10 minutes and then place it again on a towel to dry.
“Isopropyl alcohol disinfects.
“You can’t do this with all brushes, some have bristles that are held in place with glue and the glue can be dissolved with alcohol.
“My brush was a thin plastic mascara brush, all one piece, so it was nice to clean it that way.
“That being said, if you have an eye infection, you still need to throw it away as it is almost impossible to completely clear it of the infection.
“That’s why it’s easier to use the cheaper wands that you can replace in stores.
