She revealed that she has worked on several different brands, so she has “seen it all” in terms of what goes on behind the scenes.

Maggie said: “The first thing they don’t want you to know is that the lipstick you just tried has probably already been tried by 100 other people.

“Even if we cleaned and sanitized it for you before you tried it, there’s no way of knowing if all the bacteria and germs that are in that lipstick were actually removed.”

I’ve literally seen people with active cold sores on their lips pick up lipstick and lip gloss testers and use them.

The makeup professional added that there probably weren’t that many customers who would use the lipstick and the staff couldn’t clean it off, so he recommended applying it to your hand.

“I’ve literally seen people with active cold sores on their lips take lipstick and lip gloss testers and use them straight from the bullet and put them back in,” she revealed.

She added that they are often pressured by managers to upsell customers, so it might be best to avoid the lip liner they are trying to sell alongside your dream lipstick.

Last but not least, Maggie let beauty fans in on a secret about how to score freebies.

She explained that there are often free samples to hand out behind the counter, but they are not for everyone.

Maggie explained: “Those customers who were very rude or just weren’t Cool that they didn’t just display good manners.

“At the end, they would say, ‘Oh, do you have any samples or freebies?’
