Dr. Balwi is the medical director of the hair loss clinic, Elihairwhich has helped over 100,000 patients achieve full hair.

In conversation with The US Sun, he shared tips for taking care of thinning hair.

“Hair loss can have many causes,” said Dr. Balwi.

“The most common include hereditary reasons, medications and treatments, stress, nutritional deficiencies, autoimmune diseases and thyroid problems.”

He said the time it takes for hair loss to stop varies depending on the cause and the treatment used.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Balwi revealed that daily food choices can have a huge impact on hair health.

He recommended a diet rich in iron, protein, and essential vitamins and minerals to prevent elimination.

“These include vitamin C, omega 3, vitamin A, zinc and vitamin E,” he said.

“People should incorporate iron-rich foods such as spinach, lentils and red meat, as well as eggs for vitamins A, D and B12, fruit for vitamin C and salmon for vitamin D and omega 3s.

“Supplements like biotin and keratin tablets can also help.”

MAGIC MASKS

In addition to consuming nutritious foods, Dr. Balwi said topical application of specific ingredients can also be beneficial.

He said a banana mask can reduce frizz and dandruff while promoting hair growth.

“Mix 1 to 2 bananas with egg, avocado, coconut or honey,” he said.

“Apply to hair and leave for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing.”

He recommended a milk hair mask to stimulate growth, make hair softer and add shine.

“Mix milk with honey, banana or egg,” he said. “Leave it on your hair for 20 to 40 minutes before rinsing.”

Look for argan oil, green tea extract, silk proteins, vitamin E, and hyaluronic acid in your hair products.

He suggested a lemon mask to reduce dandruff and stimulate hair growth.

“Mix equal parts lemon juice and conditioner or add lemon juice to a glass of water,” he said.

“Leave it on your hair for 2 to 3 minutes before rinsing.”

BEAUTY SHOPPING

Dr Balwi said people should opt for sulfate-free and silicone-free products when investing in their hair care.

“Products with proteins, vitamins and natural oils should be prioritized,” he stated.

“Look for argan oil, green tea extract, silk proteins, vitamin E, and hyaluronic acid in your hair products.”

STYLE SOLUTIONS

“Ponytails or high, tight buns can cause traction alopecia, placing excessive tension on the area, causing bald spots or thinning around the temples and forehead area,” says Dr.

“To avoid this, people should change their hairstyle regularly.

“Using scrunchies instead of hair ties is also recommended, as silk is less likely to pull.

“People should also take breaks from extensions between uses and only use them for a short period of time.”

DURABLE LOCKS

Dr Balwi said hair transplants are another option to restore full hair.

“By restoring the natural hairline and fuller hair, our clients often experience an increase in self-confidence, leading to better social interactions, greater self-esteem and a greater sense of attractiveness,” he said.

“This wave of positive change can have far-reaching effects on many aspects of life, including personal relationships, career opportunities and overall quality of life.

“With the ability to permanently treat hair loss, hair transplantation provides individuals with a renewed sense of identity, allowing clients to approach life with renewed enthusiasm and confidence.”
